Wizz Air Flight Delays and Cancellations!

Why are Wizz Air always LATE? Wizz Air flight delays and cancellations!

So I used to be part of a team at a London Airport that handled and reduced airport delays, they are so frequent and inevitable and part of airport life, on a very good day only 70% of flights leave on time. Meaning at least 30% of flights will be delayed.

"Wizz Air ranked worst airline for delays again"

Check out my flight delay guide for whichever airline you are flying with and here for my latest Wizz Air review Grotty Planes, Dense Seating & Would I Fly Again?

Wizz Air flight delays and cancellations

Wizz Air have once again been ranked the worst airline in the UK for flight delays! This is now the third year in a row! So unfortunately if you are jetting off with Wizz Air then expect a potential delay.

Why are Wizz Air so delayed?

Well in my opinion, they run a very tight programme of flights with a high aircraft utilisation. So aircraft dont have much down time to play catch up. Combine this with just 45 minutes to turn a very densely configured A321 aircraft.

Wizz Air A321 Neo have 239 passenger seats

British Airways A321 have 177 passenger seats

Also unlike other airlines they don't have boarding groups, it just Wizz Air Priority then its a free for all and I don't think this concept is clearly working too well. Then you have people having to pay for bags at the gate, sometimes delaying boarding. Combine this with the other known delay factors such as air traffic slot restrictions etc.

Wizz Air have an average delay of 31 minutes!

Wizz Air said it had made "significant improvements" but acknowledged there was"still work to be done".

How long does a flight need to be delayed for compensation?

From 3 hours, so remember, this is 3 hour delays from your scheduled time of arrival,

so lets say you take off 3 hours late, but they have a quick flight time, shaving 20 minutes off the scheduled flight time, then you won't be entitled to a flight delay claim.

  • A flight starts the moment it pushes back from the gate, not from take off, if it pushes back up to 15 minutes within its scheduled, this is ON TIME.

  • Your flight arrives the moment it is on the stand, not from when it lands,

Here are my top tips if you do encounter travel delays and cancellations

  • Have a back up plan

  • Find out what's going on?! Knowledge is power! Check Twitter, check flight radar (track the flights) check the airlines and airports facebook pages

  • Gather evidence, take screenshots, you need timings, photos of flight boards etc

  • Keep receipts, if you are out of pocket you can usually claim expenses as well as any compensation you may be entitled too

  • Take extra provisions, medication, nappies, food, snacks, have an emergency budget!

  • Know your rights!!

So In the UK you are entitled to compensation on delayed or cancelled flights that have;

  • Departed the UK

  • Arrived in the UK with an EU or UK carrier

  • Arrived in the EU with a UK carrier

Since the end of the 'Brexit' transition period, the rules haven't changed, as EU law has been written into UK law.

You're entitled to get compensation if the flight arrives more than 3 hours late and it's the airline's fault.

What Can I do if my Wizz Air flight is delayed?

Yes come up with a plan, don’t stress, if your at the airport, go and have a sit down somewhere quiet and do some research and create a plan of action, if your with your partner, communicate and work together! Theirs really no point in letting it trigger stress and emotion! I know this is easier said than done! I would probably also have a melt down!

Wizz Air cancelled my flights today what should I do?

You're legally entitled to get compensation if the cancellation is the airline's responsibility and both the following apply: the replacement flight delays your arrival by 2 or more hours. Or your flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure.

Now you will be very lucky if you manage to speak to any Wizz Air representative, if your Wizz Air flight is cancelled don't take it out on the ground staff, I know your upset and angry and you have a right to be.

Be Resilient and focus, if the whole flight is cancelled then you will suddenly have around 240 other passengers trying to contact Wizz Air and book other flights.

BOOK A FLIGHT (probably with another airline) AND QUICK before the price bumps up because of this surge in demand!

If you don't need to get to the destination ASAP, go and sit somewhere quiet and come up with a plan, maybe a different destination? Maybe a different day or fly from a different airport? Consider all of the options, then make a decision.

BA Cancelled Flights, What to Do If British Airways Cancels Your Flight

How long does a flight need to be delayed for compensation?

  • Your flight arrives the moment it is on the stand, not from when it lands,

So what next?....... You need to file a complaint under section EC 261 rules with your airline. Claim by yourself, however....things to consider when taking on the greedy airlines, It's Stressful You have to complete the whole process by yourself, including negotiations with the airline. Lots of paperwork Knowing what forms are required and where to send them, can get complicated. Time consuming It can take months of back and forth, and hours on hold to airline call centres, to get compensation. Risky If your claim goes to court, you’ll have to shoulder legal fees yourself, whether you win or lose. Unresponsive airlines You might be left in the dark by the airline, with little to no updates on the status of your claim. Or alternatively, get a professional company to do it for you! I've teamed up with Flightright who are first class experts in this field!

They handle your entire claim, from kick off to compensation. They take care of it Guiding you through the essential documents, and they submit them for you. Can Save you tim You simply submit your documents online, they will take it from there. No win, no fee They handle all legal fees, and they will only charge a fee when you get paid.

Flight delayed? Cancelled?

With around one in four flights experiencing delays, disruption isn’t bad luck it’s part of modern travel.

I can’t fix airline ops, but I can recommend SafetyWing Nomad Insurance, travel medical insurance with useful disruption benefits, so one bad day doesn’t turn into an expensive one.

What it covers (high level):

  • Travel medical insurance for new, unexpected issues while travelling

  • Emergency evacuation (when you really don’t want to be googling hospitals)

  • Travel delay: help with unplanned overnight stay costs (up to 2 days, conditions apply)

  • Lost checked luggage cover (limits + documentation required)

If you’re travelling for winter sports, add the Adventure Sports add-on to extend cover to activities like skiing and snowboarding (check the full list + exclusions).
