Plane Avios Tip of the Week,

If you collect Avios points or you’re trying to build a balance fast for a specific trip, this is one of the strongest short-term plays British Airways has offered in a while.

For a limited time, British Airways Club members can boost Avios by up to 500%, at a cost as low as 0.92p per Avios.

Used correctly, this can materially change what you can book with British Airways Avios in 2026.

Used badly, you’ll overpay.

Here’s how it actually works.

Mr Plane Guy sharing an Avios Tip of the Week on how to earn Avios faster

What Is Avios Balance Boost?

Avios Balance Boost lets you buy extra Avios based on Avios you’ve already earned.

Normally:

  • You can boost Avios earned in the last 30 days

  • You can boost by 1x, 2x or 3x

  • The best price usually sits around 0.92p–0.96p per Avios

Right now, British Airways has quietly loosened the rules.

New to Avios or want a proper refresher? Start with The Plane Guide to Avios: How Avios Actually Work before diving into this boost.

The Limited-Time Boost Offer (Ends 6 February)

Until 5pm on 6 February, two key changes apply:

  • You can boost Avios earned across 2025 and 2026, not just the last 30 days

  • You can boost by up to 5x, instead of the usual 3x

What hasn’t changed:

  • The annual cap is still 300,000 Avios

  • You can’t re-boost Avios that were boosted before

The Key Number: 0.92p Per Avios

If you boost at 3x, 4x or 5x, the price drops to 0.92p per Avios.

If you boost at 1x or 2x, you pay more.

That’s the trap most people fall into.

*the above figures are an example

How does it work?

To buy Avios at 0.92p, you need to stay under the 300,000 Avios cap using one of these combinations:

  • Boost 100,000 Avios at 3x

  • Boost 75,000 Avios at 4x

  • Boost 60,000 Avios at 5x

All three result in:

  • 300,000 Avios purchased

  • 0.92p per Avios

Anything above that pushes the price up and isn’t worth it.

You can apply the deal to either individual or multiple Avios transactions totalling up to 300,000, choosing to boost by 100% to 500% at the following rates:

  • 500% boost – 109 Avios per £1

  • 400% boost – 109 Avios per £1

  • 300% boost – 109 Avios per £1

  • 200% boost – 106 Avios per £1

  • 100% boost – 104 Avios per £1

What Avios Can Be Boosted?

You can boost Avios earned from:

  • British Airways flights

  • Credit card spending

  • BA Shopping Portal

  • Hotels and travel partners (including Uber)

You cannot boost Avios from:

  • Transfers from Qatar Airways or Finnair

  • Nectar conversions

  • Gifted or shared Avios

  • Previously purchased Avios

Each transaction can only be boosted once.

Plane Honest: Is This Worth It?

At 0.92p, this is one of the cheapest legitimate ways to buy British Airways Avios.

But and this matters, cheap Avios are still useless without availability.

Avios work best when:

  • You’re flexible with dates

  • You book early

  • You know when reward seats are actually released

That’s where most people fall down.

Finding Seats Is the Real Skill

Used deliberately, British Airways Avios can unlock flights that would otherwise cost serious money.

Used casually, they’re often disappointing.

The difference is timing.

That’s exactly why I use Reward Flight Finder.

It does what BA’s website doesn’t:

  • Tracks BA reward availability automatically

  • Alerts you when seats appear

  • Shows peak vs off-peak pricing clearly

  • Finds seats months before most people even look

You can start with the 7-day free trial, and if it works for you (no commitment, cancel anytime)

Who This Avios Boost Is Best For

✔ You already collect Avios points

✔ You have a route or trip in mind

✔ You understand reward seat availability

✔ You want to top up for an upgrade or redemption

🚫 Not ideal if:

  • You’re buying Avios “just in case”

  • You don’t track availability

  • You expect guaranteed seats

Plane Summary

  • British Airways Club members can boost Avios by up to 500%

  • Best value price: 0.92p per Avios

  • Annual cap: 300,000 Avios

  • Deadline: 6 February

  • Only worth doing at 3x, 4x or 5x

Used well, this can unlock serious value. If you know your route and dates, this is worth doing. If you don’t, wait. Used blindly, it’s just an expensive points purchase.

This boost follows IAG Loyalty’s recent TodayTix partnership, which allows British Airways Club members to earn 1 Avios per £1 on theatre tickets I broke that down properly here
