Looking for a stylish hotel in Reykjavik with a great location? This one ticks the boxes.
By Travel Content Creator Mr Plane Guy
If you're looking for a stylish hotel in Reykjavik with a great location, but don’t want to pay full luxury prices, this might be exactly what you’re after.
I stayed at Grandi by Center Hotels during my Iceland trip, and while it’s not a full-on luxury hotel, it does a lot right, especially when it comes to location, comfort, and overall vibe.
This is my Plane Honest review of one of the more popular Reykjavik hotels, covering the rooms, breakfast, location, and whether it’s actually worth booking.
Hotel Class
****
Location
Seljavegur 2, Vesturbær, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland
Grandi Reykjavik Hotel: Quick Overview
Location: Vesturbær, Reykjavik
Hotel Class: 4-star
Best for: City breaks & first-time Iceland trips
Vibe: Industrial-chic, modern, relaxed
Price: Mid-range for Reykjavik (which still isn’t cheap 😅)

Facilities
Free Public Parking Nearby
Free Breakfast
Business Centre with Internet Access
Baggage Storage
Safe
Coffee / Tea Maker
Flat-Screen TV

Rooms at Grandi Reykjavik
The rooms are modern, clean, and very “Scandi minimal” exactly what you’d expect in Iceland.
You’ll get:
Free WiFi
Flat-screen TV
Mini bar
Safe
Comfortable beds (key after long travel days)
If you can, try to get a higher floor, the city views are a nice bonus. It’s not ultra-luxury, but it’s comfortable, well-designed, and does the job well.

Location: Is Grandi a Good Area to Stay in Reykjavik?
One of the biggest wins here is the location.
Grandi sits in Reykjavik’s creative district, which feels slightly more local and less touristy, but you’re still only about a 5-minute walk from the city centre.
You’re close to:
Reykjavik harbour (whale watching tours)
Bars and restaurants
Main attractions
If you’re Googling “where to stay in Reykjavik”, this is actually a really great base.

Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here is genuinely one of the highlights.
There’s a really good selection, including:
Fresh pastries
Hot breakfast options
Icelandic touches

One thing I liked:When I had to leave early at 7am, they still had pastries and coffee ready at reception, which is a small detail but makes a big difference.
There’s also:
Mýrin Brasserie (on-site restaurant)
Hygge bakery for coffee + pastries

The Overall Vibe
The lobby and lounge area have a really nice atmosphere, it feels more like a relaxed social space than a typical hotel lobby.
It’s one of those places where, you can actually chill after a long day exploring. Not just go straight to your room

The Best Bits
Great location (walkable to everything)
Stylish, modern design
Strong breakfast offering
Relaxed, welcoming atmosphere
Ideal base for exploring Reykjavik

The Downsides
Honestly… none that stood out for me.
But worth knowing:
It’s not a luxury hotel
Iceland prices are high in general
So expectations matter.
Is Grandi Reykjavik Worth It?
If you're comparing hotels in Reykjavik Iceland, Grandi sits nicely in that middle ground.
It’s ideal if you want:
Good location
Modern design
Comfortable stay
No unnecessary luxury price tag
Think: Premium Economy, not Business Class
Check out my Ultimate Guide to Iceland jam packed full of tips, recommendations and my itinerary.
FINAL BOARDING CALL
Boarding Status: Cleared for Takeoff
Cabin Class Verdict: Premium Economy
Worth Paying For? Yes, if the price is right
Who This Is For:
First-time Iceland travellers
City explorers
People who want location over luxury
Who Should Skip:
Luxury hotel lovers
Spa/resort seekers

Explore Iceland
