Sydney Airport Lounge Experience Plaza Premium Lounge at Sydney Kingsford Smith
By Travel Expert and airport lounge champagne tester Mr Plane Guy
Located at Sydney Airport, officially known as Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD), the Plaza Premium Lounge in International Departures is a hidden gem if you’re looking to escape the hustle of Terminal 1. You’ll find it opposite Gates 25–26, look out for the lounge signage, head up in the lift, and you’ll land at the reception area ready to relax.

This lounge is part of the network of Sydney Airport lounges, and if you're using Priority Pass Sydney or Lounge Key, it’s an easy and worthwhile way to elevate your airport experience.

I stayed for just under three hours, and here’s what’s included:
Complimentary buffet-style food
Free soft drinks, barista coffee, alcoholic options
Wi-Fi
Charging stations (note: some adaptors may not fit the sockets)
Shower facilities (for an extra fee)
First impressions? It’s sleek and modern, with clean lines and a soft, relaxing atmosphere. Natural light pours through the huge windows, offering views of the airfield and even the Sydney skyline. Although the lounge is on the smaller side, the layout is thoughtful, with a mix of lounges, working benches, and café-style seating.
I arrived just before breakfast service ended and stayed long enough to try some lunch options too, best of both worlds!
Breakfast included:
Croissants, pastries, toast
Fruit, cereals, yogurt
Scrambled eggs, chicken sausages, bacon, potatoes
Egg or cheese sandwiches
Fresh coffee (I had a complimentary cappuccino)
Full-service bar (some premium drinks like champagne or cocktails are extra)
Lunch featured:
Lemon chicken wings, samosas, spring rolls
Kale and tomato pasta
Chilli con carne with jasmine rice
Salad bar, cheese and crackers
Egg mayo sandwiches
A range of cakes and sweet treats
I also tried a local Byron Bay Draught beer—very refreshing!
The staff were friendly and efficient, especially during the transition between meal services. The lounge stayed clean and well-stocked the whole time I was there.
Only small gripe? One of the power points was too recessed for my adapter to fit properly. Not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind if you're relying on charging multiple devices.
Opening Hours: 05:30 – 22:00 daily
Location:International Departures, Opposite Gates 25–26, Sydney Airport Terminal 1
Top Tip: Get to Sydney Airport early! I gave myself extra time to enjoy the Plaza Premium Lounge in Sydney Airport’s International Departures. With traffic delays, airport security, and time to explore the Sydney Airport lounge scene, you’ll thank yourself for being ahead of schedule.

The Verdict
This Sydney Airport lounge really ticked all the boxes—stylish, comfortable, and with a solid food and drink offering. It felt like a proper pre-flight retreat, especially compared to the busy gate areas. Whether you're flying long-haul or just want a moment of peace before boarding, it’s a great option.
If you have Priority Pass Sydney, Lounge Key, or access through your bank or card, definitely consider this lounge and if not don’t worry, there’s still a way in.

How to Get from Central Sydney to Sydney Airport (Sydney Kingsford Smith)
Getting to Sydney Airport, also known as Sydney Kingsford Smith, from the city centre is super straightforward, but it’s worth planning ahead, especially during peak hours when Sydney traffic can be unpredictable.
By Train: The quickest and most convenient option is the Airport Link train. Trains run frequently from Central Station and get you to Sydney Airport Terminal 1 (International) in about 13 minutes. It’s fast, clean, and avoids the hassle of city traffic. Just tap on and off with an Opal card or contactless bank card.
By Car or Taxi: You can also drive or grab a taxi or rideshare (like Uber or Ola). The trip takes around 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. Be warned, weekday mornings and evenings can get seriously congested, especially if you're heading to the Sydney Airport lounges early to relax before your flight. Always allow extra time just in case.
By Shuttle or Bus: A number of private airport shuttles operate from hotels in the CBD and surrounding suburbs. While usually cheaper than a taxi, these can take longer due to multiple stops, so plan accordingly.
