Wait, What? Wizz Air… Business Class?!

No, it’s not April Fools’ Day. Wizz Air yes, the ultra-low-cost, pink-and-purple powerhouse that charges you extra if you look at the overhead bins too long is actually trialling a business-class-style product from this December.

The airline says the trial will run on selected flights from London, Bucharest, Budapest, Rome, and Warsaw, offering a “middle-seat-free” experience in row 1 only.

Introducing... “Wizz Class” (I think they should call it Bizz Class)

According to Silvia Mosquera, Wizz Air’s Chief Commercial Officer:

“This product will include additional benefits such as priority boarding, a carry-on bag, space in the overhead bins, and more perks to be announced when we launch.”

So, think of it as a taste of business class, Wizz style. You’ll get:

  • The blocked middle seat (hello elbow room)

  • Priority boarding

  • Carry-on bag allowance with guaranteed overhead space

But… no free food, no champagne, and no lounge access (though you can always fix that with Priority Pass 😉).

Priority Pass Lounge offer Priority Pass access lounge at London Luton Airport.

Wizz Air economy cabin future Wizz Class trial will block middle seat.

Four Seats, One Row, and a Whole Lot of Curiosity

For now, it’s just the bulkhead row, meaning extra legroom and a quick exit when you land. Only four seats per flight will be sold as Wizz Class, making this more of a proof-of-concept than a full-scale rollout.

From a cost perspective, this is fascinating. Low-cost carriers make money from extras, not empty seats, so blocking a middle one means sacrificing an upsell opportunity. Still, if travellers are willing to pay more for comfort, Wizz may have cracked a new kind of “smart-budget premium.”

Wizz Play Takes Off Too

Alongside the trial, Wizz is launching Wizz Play, a new onboard connectivity and entertainment platform.

It’ll let you chat on WhatsApp, order snacks from your seat, and stream entertainment basically Wi-Fi-lite, without promising full browsing.

It’s a smart move (if slightly vague). Installing satellite antennas just to send memes seems a little extra, but Wizz clearly wants to bring its inflight experience into 2026.

Will It Work?

Honestly… I think so.

For many travellers, especially business flyers trying to stretch their budgets the combination of extra legroom + no middle seat + fast boarding hits a sweet spot.

We’ve seen this work before: Eurowings BIZ class and even easyJet’s “Up Front” seats show there’s a market for semi-premium without the price tag.

Wizz just needs to price it right and keep it simple.

Plane Tip: Don’t forget the little comforts. I never board without my noise-cancelling earbuds and travel adapter with USB-C ports both from Amazon. You should also get a airplane bluetooth adaptor, very handy for flights (Not Wizz Air ones.)

Final Wizz Boarding Call

It’s bold, unexpected, and very Wizz. If this Wizz Class trial takes off, don’t be surprised if Ryanair’s next big thing is “Lie Flat Beds” though you might have to pay extra for the pillow.
