Norse Atlantic Airways Carry-On Luggage Bag Rules 2025: What You NEED to Know
By Mr Plane Guy, Travel Blogger and Flight Expert
Does Norse Atlantic Airways Check Bag Size?
Yes, they do and they don’t mess around. Norse Atlantic Airways is serious about luggage compliance, especially if you're on an Economy Light fare.
On my last trip, even my trusty little Cabin Max backpack got the full VIP treatment at check-in: weighed, measured, and lovingly shoved into the sizer (yes, the metal doom cage of airline luggage). If your bag doesn’t fit their requirements, you’ll likely be charged to check it in. So, don’t risk it, check your bag’s size and weight before you even leave the house.

What’s the Allowed Size for a Carry-On Bag?
Here’s the current 2025 policy, straight from the Norse Viking playbook:
Norse Economy Cabin
Personal Item: 40 x 30 x 15 cm (no weight limit, must fit under the seat)
Carry-On Bag: 56 x 45 x 25 cm — max 10kg (22lbs)
Norse Premium Cabin
Personal Item: 45 x 36 x 22 cm (no weight limit)
Carry-On Bag: 56 x 45 x 25 cm — max 15kg (33lbs)
Important note: These dimensions include wheels and handles. If you’re even slightly over, staff will notice.
How Strict Is Norse on Personal Items?
In a word? Strict. Norse doesn't let anything slide even your "oh-it’s-just-a-little-laptop-bag" personal item is likely to be weighed and assessed.
Make sure your bag is soft-sided, squishable, and doesn’t bulge out of the dimensions listed above. I’ve personally been asked to consolidate items if the gate agent thought it was two bags disguised as one.
My go-to personal item is the Cabin Max Metz 20L it’s comfy, compact, and fits every time.
Cabin Max METZ 20L Underseat Bag (40 x 20 x 25 cm)
Now this bag actually fits Ryanair and Wizz Air that have stricter and smaller free personal baggage allowance you can get the bigger option 30L 45 x 36 x 20 cm to fly with Norse airlines.
You can find more information about this bag Right Here
The Cabin Max METZ 20L is my go-to under seat bag for Norse flights. It’s perfectly sized for Norse airlines free personal item allowance and comes packed with features:
Lightweight and Durable:Weighs only 500g, making it easy to carry around even when fully packed.
Comfortable for Travel: Extensive padding ensures comfort, whether you’re navigating airports or exploring your destination.
Organised Storage: Multiple compartments, including a front organiser pocket for travel documents, pens, and tickets, make staying organised a breeze.
Eco-Friendly: Made from recycled plastic bottles (Rpet polyester), it’s a sustainable choice for eco-conscious travellers.
This bag is also compatible with most major airlines, making it a versatile travel companion beyond Norse.
It comes in so many different colour options
Top Tip: Use a soft-sided holdall or backpack like the Cabin Max Metz 30L (45 x 36 x 20 cm). These can be slightly compressed if needed by pulling in the straps at the side.
Can You Take Liquids on Norse Atlantic Airways?
Yes, you can, but liquid rules may vary depending on the airport you’re flying from.
Standard Liquid Rules (Still in Place at Many Airports):
Each container must be 100ml or less
All liquids must fit into one clear, resealable 1-litre plastic bag
Bag must often be presented separately at airport security
However, Changes Are Coming:
A growing number of airports, especially in Europe, are upgrading to CT (computed tomography) scanners, which allow you to keep liquids and electronics inside your bag. These new scanners also allow containers larger than 100ml, usually up to 2 litres — though this depends on local airport policy.
As of 2025:
London City, Teesside, and some terminals at Heathrow and Gatwick already allow liquids to stay in bags with no 100ml limit.
Most large hubs (like JFK, LAX, CDG, and FRA) still use the standard rules, so it’s safest to follow the 100ml/1L rule unless you know otherwise.
Mr Plane Guy's Tip: Always check the airport security rules for both your departure and arrival airports. If in doubt, stick to 100ml bottles in a clear plastic bag and be ready to take them out.
What About Checked Luggage?
Norse checked luggage policy is pretty generous, if you’ve booked the right fare.
Economy Classic and Economy Flextra
1 standard checked bag included
Max weight: 23kg (50lbs)
Max dimensions: 158cm total (height + width + length)
Premium Classic
1 checked bag included (same specs as above)
Premium Light
No checked bag included , you’ll need to add and pay for one if needed.
Other Checked Luggage Rules:
Max 9 bags per person on a booking
Shared baggage only allowed within the same booking
Overweight fee kicks in after 23kg
Bags cannot exceed 32kg or be less than 2kg
Bulky items above 158cm may require extra fees — anything over 250cm must be pre-approved at least 48 hours before your flight
As of May 26, 2025, Norse will no longer allow baggage upgrades after booking
Baggage charges are non-refundable
Infant passengers can check a car seat and stroller at no cost
Fees (based on London–New York one-way):
15kg: $60
23kg: $75
32kg: $170
It adds up fast. Pack smart. Use compression cubes, roll everything, and be honest with yourself, are you really going to wear that third pair of jeans?

Packing Tips for Norse Flights
Weigh your bag at home: Don’t guess, guesswork gets expensive.
Use compression packing cubes: More space, more organisation.
Audit your bag post-trip: I always find at least three things I didn’t need.
Pack solid toiletries: Save your liquids allowance.
Wear bulky items: Jackets and boots can be your boarding pass to more space.
And remember my golden rule: take twice as much money and half as many clothes.

Recommended Checked Bags That Meet Norse’s Rules
Looking for a checked suitcase that’s perfect for Norse Atlantic’s baggage rules (and won’t get you stung with overweight or oversize fees)? These are my top picks, tried-and-tested, with space for your essentials and that “just-in-case” extra jumper.
1. Samsonite Winfield 3 DLX Hardside Spinner
Size: 28” model fits within Norse’s 158cm max
Weight: Lightweight polycarbonate design

2. Travelpro Maxlite 5 Expandable Checked Luggage

3. American Tourister Soundbox Spinner
Size: 77cm model stays just under 158cm

Why it’s great: Funky colours, durable shell, and zips that hold under pressure

4. Delsey Paris Helium Aero Hardside

5. Amazon Basics Hardside Spinner 28”
Size: 28” fits within Norse dimensions
Weight: Surprisingly durable for the price
Why it’s great: Budget-friendly, functional, and doesn’t scream “I got this on sale” (even if you did) Check it out HERE

Stick with these five options and you’ll avoid Norse’s bulky bag fees which, let’s be honest, are the real turbulence.
Mr Plane Guy’s Tip:Before your flight, weigh your bag at home and measure dimensions with a tape measure. Just because a brand says “checked size” doesn’t mean it’s under
158cm once packed and puffed out like a marshmallow.
Top Tip: I put an AirTag in my suitcase, I was able to check that my had arrived at the aircraft and is such good peace of mind!

Don't forget these handy Hand Luggage Regulation approved waterproof liquids wash bags.
