Experiencing a night in the desert beneath the stars is enchanting, but picture doing it in a luxury exclusive desert camp! Add in the desert winds and the thought of the tent being lifted off at any point like a scene out of the Wizard of Oz meets Lawrence of Arabia then this is certainly an adventure not to miss!!

During my visit to the edge of the Sahara Desert in Morocco, I chose to stay at a truly unique place. Here is my complete review of Zagora Luxury Desert Camp with Get Your Guide.

The night before this I stayed at the Kasbah Oulad Othmane which is the perfect stop before hitting the desert, to get used to an authentic Moroccan experience.

Desert Dunes and Camels with the hump!

The adventure of Surviving the Sahara begins with a camel ride to Zagora's Luxury Desert Camp. This takes just over an hour or so and was spectacular!  I met my camel handler and Dave the camel at the sandy fringe of the dunes and off I went.

I wasn't sure about taking a camel ride, but I decided that I wanted to experience it, I think that the general agreement is that riding camels does not cause them harm. Being the only participant on our camel trek made the experience feel quite exclusive and like a VIP!

Welcome to the camp with a spot of tea

The fabulous host, Mubarak, rolled out the red carpet with a delightful spread of mint tea and biscuits that screamed Moroccan hospitality! After a warm welcome, it was time for a tour of the camp, showcasing all of its hidden gems.

The tent

The initial impressions were positive; the space appeared clean and inviting, with complimentary bottles of water provided. The toilet and bathroom facilities were satisfactory and separated by curtains.

The accommodations featured plug socket outlets, a fan, ample storage, comfortable chairs for relaxation, and designated areas to hang shoes and clothes.

Keep in mind that the tents are not heated, so if you're visiting during the winter months, make sure to come well-prepared!

Dinner is served

Dinner was actually really nice one of my best meals in Morocco! I was offered chicken Tagine, served with rice and chicken skewers with fresh fruit for desert.

Afterwards it was time to retire to bed, surprisingly to a nice warm shower and 5g on my phone!!

Suddenly about 10pm out of nowhere gayle force winds started howling and rattling the tent! I though perhaps it was a little sandstorm and it would pass in an hour or so, but no it went on all night long, rattling and at some point I thought the whole tent was going to lift and fly up and away and I would be just left in a double bed in the middle of the Sahara at 3am!

Now if there had been a few of us this would have been great fun! But no just little old me, shitting myself!!

Breakfast time

After what felt like 10 minutes sleep (ok it was around 2.5 hours max) I had to be up from 0630 to squeeze in Quad biking! Breakfast was just bread and jams, yogurt, tea or coffee and orange juice. I wish I had skipped it for an extra 15 minutes in the comfy bed.

Quad Biking in the Sahara desert

Here is the Quad Biking tour I booked with Get Your Guide. It was such good fun! I will attach a video of my tip below from my Tik Tok. I would really recommend this, it was at last an hour and superb zooming around the sand dunes! Do it!

Summary, the verdict is in.

It was a little strange doing this alone, equally I would have complained if other tourists had been there! It felt very exclusive and the instagrammer influencer wannabe in me was able to have a full exclusive photo shoot!

All in all it was a really great experience but if I'm honest the stormy windy weather was a little scary . I was only able to get 2-3 hours sleep due to the noise! It would be so much fun if it was a small group of friends or a couple I probably wouldn’t recommend it for solo travellers!

For Morocco, don't forget lots of linen and scarfs, especially if your heading to the desert. Get yourself a snazzy money belt, Morocco is very much cash based, even some hotels required payment in cash!

You also need a European adaptor and don't pick one up at the airport for £30!!!
