1. Sign up for a British Airways American Express Card, or a rewards credit card

The BA Amex cards often come with chunky welcome bonuses, sometimes up to 25,000 Avios just for hitting a spend target. Even the free (Blue) card earns Avios on everyday spending. This is not a sales pitch for a credit card I'm not a financial expert please make sure you do your research before taking out a credit card.

2. Shop through the British Airways eStore

Next time you’re buying something online, whether it’s clothes, gadgets or even insurance, check the BA eStore. Many retailers pay out Avios per pound spent, and the rates can be surprisingly good during promo periods.

3. Convert hotel points

If you’re sitting on a stash of Marriott Bonvoy, IHG One Rewards or Hilton Honors points, you can convert them to Avios. Marriott even gives you bonus Avios if you convert in chunks of 60,000.

4. Take advantage of BA’s Part Pay With Avios

Even if you don’t have enough Avios for a full reward flight, you can still knock hundreds of pounds off a cash ticket by paying part in Avios.

5. Keep an eye on regular Avios promotions

BA and partners like Iberia and Qatar often run sales where you can buy Avios at a discount or earn double when flying certain routes. Timing is everything!

Should You Book?

If you’ve been stockpiling Avios waiting for “the right time” this is it. Honestly, this is one of the best-value Avios redemptions BA has put out in recent memory.

Even if you only redeem for a short Club Europe hop to somewhere like Nice or Vienna, you’ll feel like a boss for spending fewer points and still getting the lounge access, champagne, and decent food. And if you’ve got enough Avios to splash on a transatlantic trip to New York or Miami? Even better.
