If you’ve ever booked an easyJet flight thinking “£5.99 for a cabin bag? Bargain.”…only to get to checkout and suddenly it’s £23.99, welcome aboard.
Turns out it’s not just you being dramatic. The UK’s advertising watchdog has officially BANNED an easyJet advert for being misleading about cabin bag prices.
Yes. Really.
The issue? That familiar little line saying you can add a large cabin bag “from £5.99”.
Naughty easyJet. So… how much ARE bags really?
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled that easyJet couldn’t prove that £5.99 was a realistic price for a meaningful number of flights.
In plain English: If hardly anyone can actually buy it at that price, you can’t plaster it all over your website.
What the ASA basically said (no legal waffle)
When airlines say “from £X”, passengers reasonably expect:
That price to exist on more than five random flights
Across a decent spread of routes and dates
easyJet couldn’t prove that, so the advert broke rules on:
Misleading pricing
Lack of evidence
Price transparency
I’ve covered easyJet’s baggage rules in detail if you want the full breakdown of cabin bag sizes, hand luggage rules and what you’ll actually pay: easyJet Baggage Allowance (Cabin Bag Size, Hand Luggage & Hold Bags, 2026).
easyJet said:
£5.99 is just a starting price
Prices are shown clearly later in the booking
Costs vary with demand
All true… but without proof that £5.99 is actually achievable? The ASA wasn’t having it.
Why this actually matters (especially at the gate) Which? found that many passengers paid up to five times more than the headline price for a large cabin bag.
And here’s the bit that stings: Sometimes choosing an airline that includes cabin bags works out cheaper than “cheap flights + surprise fees”.
So let’s talk easyJet Baggage rules, sizes, and real bags.
easyJet Cabin Bag Rules (2026, Plane Honest Version)
🧳 Small cabin bag (FREE)
Goes under the seat
This is your only free item
This is where most people get caught out
Maximum size:45 x 36 x 20 cm (including handles & wheels)
👉 Cabin Max Metz 30L (45 × 36 × 20 cm) The perfect size for easyJet’s free under-seat allowance, avoid gate fees and are comfortable on your back for city breaks and short trips.
🧳 Large cabin bag (PAID… usually)
Goes in the overhead locker
Included if you:
Pay for it
Have easyJet Plus
Buy a fare that includes it
Maximum size: 56 x 45 x 25 cm
And yes, they do check.

My Actual Recommendation (What I Use)
This is where I stop being polite and start being helpful.
This is perfect if you have purchased easyJet speedy boarding or have paid for a bag to carry onboard, option.
It comes in so many colours, check them out here
If you want to avoid the baggage drama entirely, this is my go-to:
Designed specifically to fit easyJet’s under-seat limit
45 x 36 x 20 cm, bang on
Fits way more than you think if you roll your clothes
Perfect for:
City breaks
Long weekends
Even a week away if you pack smart
Honestly? I’ve done full holidays with it. No gate stress. No surprise fees. No passive-aggressive sighs from ground staff.
This is exactly why I bang on about bags designed to fit, not “close enough”.
(And yes, this is also why people save money without upgrading fares.)
Or… Just Get easyJet Plus?
If you fly easyJet more than a couple of times a year, this might actually make sense.
easyJet Plus includes:
Large cabin bag on every flight
Speedy boarding
Seat selection
No maths gymnastics at checkout. No bag anxiety.

Quick-fire easyJet Cabin Bag Questions
Can you take two bags on easyJet? Only if you pay for a large cabin bag or have easyJet Plus.
Is easyJet strict with cabin bags?
Yes. Long answer: also yes, especially at busy airports.
Do they weigh hand luggage?
Usually no, but size is king.
What happens if your bag doesn’t fit?
Gate fee, which is currently £45.
The Bottom Line (Plane Honest, Always)
This ruling confirms what frequent flyers already knew:
“From £5.99” wasn’t reflecting real-world pricing
Cabin bag fees are often much higher
Your bag choice matters more than the airline slogan
So don’t rely on marketing.
Rely on actual dimensions, real prices, and bags designed to fit.
Plane honest, always
Final Boarding Call
easyJet’s baggage rules aren’t complicated, but they are enforced. Choose the right bag, know your allowance, and you’ll breeze through boarding without fees.
