What on Earth (or Terminal 2) Are Napcabs?

If you’ve ever hit that travel wall too early to check in, too tired to explore, and too broke for an airport hotel Munich International Airport has a very German solution: Napcabs.

They’re sleeping pods tucked inside the terminal, offering a real bed, desk, Wi-Fi, power sockets, and peace (well… sort of) for weary travellers who just need a break from the boarding-gate chaos.

I’d spotted them years ago on a layover and swore I’d try them one day. Fast-forward to an 8 hour transit via Munich with very little sleep before my first sector landing into Munich I’m powered by caffeine. The Perfect time to test-nap.

Where to Find Napcabs at Munich Airport

You’ll find Napcabs airside in Terminal 2 (near Gate H32) and Terminal 1 (Gate B) right in the middle of the action. Look for the futuristic glass pods glowing blue.

If you’re transferring through Munich or heading onwards to Berlin or Frankfurt, the pods sit right between gates, so no passport control or security drama needed.

Napcab Prices at Munich Airport (2025)

  • Day rate (06:00 – 22:00): €15 per hour (2-hour minimum)

  • Night rate (22:00 – 06:00): €10 per hour

Payment is card-only, no cash accepted. The touchscreen outside lets you book in English or German, choose your time, and set your personal entry code (handy for pretzel runs).

I booked two hours for €30, just enough for a recharge before my flight.

Plane Luxury for Less: Airport Hotel Alternatives

If you’ve got a long layover or overnight connection, compare rates on lastminute.com for Munich Airport hotels, you’ll find everything from capsule rooms to the Hilton right above Terminal 2.

Inside the Napcab, Tiny but Mighty

Once inside, it feels like stepping into a minimalist hotel room designed by Lufthansa:

  • Single bed with crisp sheets and a light duvet

  • Adjustable lighting (never pitch-black, so bring an eye mask)

  • Fold-out desk, USBs, iPhone charger, and flight-info screen

  • Built-in entertainment, music, and alarm clock

  • Secure digital lock so you can exit and re-enter

It’s spotless, each pod locks itself for cleaning between guests and there’s just enough space for your carry-on without tripping over it.

The Noise Factor, Willkommen to the Airport Symphony

Now, my only complaint: noise.

Munich Airport is efficient, beautiful, and busier than Oktoberfest on a Friday. The Napcabs aren’t soundproof, so expect a steady stream of “Achtung… Flight LH 457 now boarding…” every sixty seconds.

Good earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones are non-negotiable. Once you’ve tuned out the tannoy, though, the white noise actually becomes oddly soothing.

Against all odds, I slept like a baby for three hours.

Plane Tip: Travel Essentials for a Better Nap

Pack smart, a pair of noise-cancelling earplugs and a comfortable eye mask will turn your pod into a private first-class cabin. My full Amazon travel essentials list includes power banks, adaptors and luggage upgrades that make any layover easier.

Pretzels, Naps & German Efficiency

There’s something oddly comforting about napping in a pod while people outside debate gate numbers in three languages. You feel cocooned, safe, and smug, because you’re horizontal and everyone else is hunched over phone chargers.

Plus, the pods are right near food options. I grabbed a pretzel before my nap and another after. Balance restored.

Is It Worth €30 for a Nap?

Absolutely, if you’ve got a long layover, delay, or just need to switch off.

Pros

  • Private space to stretch out

  • Power sockets galore

  • Clean sheets and air-conditioning

  • Security and peace of mind

Cons

  • Not fully soundproof

  • No showers

  • Addictive, you’ll want one at every airport

If Heathrow ever installs these, I might move in.

Lounge Life Alternative: Priority Pass 30% Off

If you prefer prosecco to peace and quiet, Munich Airport has several excellent lounges including Airport Lounge World, Munich Franz-Josef Strauss, Terminal 1 and Airport Lounge Europe also in Terminal 1. You can access them both with Priority Pass.

and I’ve secured 30% off membership if you’d rather relax with a drink than fight the boarding gates.

Final Boarding Call, Was It Gut, Ja?

Jawohl! It was very gut indeed.

Despite the background hustle and the endless announcements, Napcabs delivered exactly what I needed: a clean, quiet-ish cocoon to rest, recharge, and dream of free upgrades.

Overall rating

Comfort: 8/10

Cleanliness: 10/10

Noise: 6/10 (bring earplugs)

Value: 9/10

Would I use one again? Ja, bitte.
