Virgin Red has just partnered with Marks & Spencer through its revamped Sparks loyalty programme, promising more rewards from the things you already do. Sounds great, right?
Well… yes and no.
This is a nice little bonus, but it’s not (yet) the game-changing loyalty move it could be.
What Is the Virgin Red and M&S Sparks Partnership?
This is the first time Sparks has partnered with an external brand and it works both ways:
Spend with Virgin → earn cashback into your Sparks wallet
Shop M&S → earn Virgin Points
👉 On paper, it’s a two-way loyalty system.
In reality? It’s more like two separate systems with a light connection
How You Actually Earn (And What You Get)

When you link your accounts, you’ll get personalised offers like:
Up to £130 back when booking a Virgin Atlantic Holiday
£80 when switching to Virgin Media
£8 per £100 with Virgin Voyages
£10 per £100 at Virgin Hotels

You’ll only see 2 offers at a time
They refresh every few months
They’re personalised (so not everyone gets the same value)
Earn Virgin Points at M&S
Shop online at M&S via Virgin Red and you can earn:

Example:

How to Maximise This (Stack Your Points Properly)
If you are going to use this M&S + Virgin Red setup, don’t do it casually.
Stack it. Here’s how:
Step 1: Shop M&S via Virgin Red
Earn up to 4 Virgin Points per £1 (promo rate)
Step 2: Pay with a Virgin Atlantic Credit Card
Use a Virgin Atlantic credit card to earn again on the same spend:
Virgin Atlantic Reward Credit Card (free)
Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card (£160/year, higher earn rate + vouchers)
Now you’re earning:
Points from Virgin Red
Points from your credit card
Example (Stacked Earning)
Let’s say you spend £100 at M&S:
Virgin Red: up to 400 points
Credit card: ~75–150 points (depending on card)
Total: ~475–550 Virgin Points
Why This Matters
On its own? This partnership is “nice”
Stacked? It becomes a decent passive earner
Still not Tesco-level… but much closer.

Technically, yes.
You can redeem points on things like:
Percy Pigs
Tea
Snacks
But let’s be honest…
That’s not why you collect Virgin Points
Can You Turn Sparks Into Virgin Points?
No.
And this is the biggest limitation.
👉 You can’t convert Sparks cashback into Virgin Points
👉 You can’t turn Virgin Points into meaningful M&S value
So while it sounds like a proper loyalty partnership…
👉 It doesn’t function like one
Is It Actually Worth It?
✔ Yes, if:
You already use Virgin products
You shop at M&S anyway
You want some easy extra value
❌ No, if:
You’re trying to seriously build points for flights
You’re expecting a powerful loyalty strategy
This is passive value, not a reason to change behaviour
Why Tesco Clubcard Still Beats This
Let’s be real.
If you’re playing the points game in the UK:
Tesco Clubcard is still miles ahead
Why?
You earn points on everyday spend
You convert them into Virgin Points
You use those points for flights
That’s a complete ecosystem
This? Feels like a half-built one

Then suddenly you’ve got:
