If you collect Avios, you already know how valuable they can be for saving money or upgrading your travel. But you don’t always have to fly to earn them.

This week’s Avios bonus tip is a clever one. Right now you can earn up to 14 Avios per £1 spent when you shop online at Harrods.

That’s more than double the usual rate and a brilliant opportunity to treat yourself or someone else to something special while boosting your Avios balance.

Here’s how it works, how much you could earn and why it is one of the easiest ways to collect more Avios if you have a luxury purchase in mind.

The Offer: Up to 14 Avios per £1 at Harrods

At the moment, when you shop online at Harrods you can earn up to 14 Avios per £1 spent compared to the usual 6 Avios per £1.

This increased rate applies when you spend £240 or more on clothing, accessories, bags and shoes.

Spend £240 or more, earn 14 Avios per £1 applies to online purchases only and on categories including clothing, accessories, bags and shoes.

If you have been considering buying a designer bag, luxury luggage or even a special gift, this is a good time to do it.

How Many Avios Could You Earn

Let’s look at an example.

If you spend £300 on a designer bag, at 14 Avios per pound you would earn:

£300 x 14 = 4,200 Avios

That is enough for a one way Reward Flight to Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels or Berlin in off-peak economy just for buying something you may have bought anyway.

Even better, the Avios you earn here stack with the Avios you would earn on your BA credit card if you pay with one, and with your usual Executive Club points from flying.

Tip: Use a Barclaycard Avios Credit Card to Boost Your Points

I’m not a financial expert, please seek advice if you need it and this isn’t an advert. I genuinely use the Barclaycard Avios credit card to earn Avios on bills and everyday spending.

The standard Barclaycard Avios has no annual fee and earns 1 Avios per £1 spent, plus a welcome bonus if you hit the minimum spend in the first three months. If you want to supercharge your balance, the Avios Plus card costs £20/month, earns 1.5 Avios per £1, and offers a bigger welcome bonus and a cabin upgrade voucher when you meet the annual spend target.

Why This Is Worth Doing

I like this offer because it is realistic.

So many Avios promotions require spending thousands on premium flights or staying dozens of nights in hotels. This one is simple and achievable.

If you were already planning to buy a new suitcase or a birthday gift, you may as well earn Avios while you do it.

Collecting Avios is about stacking small wins that add up to big rewards.

How to Claim Your Avios

To make sure you get the bonus, you need to:

Log in to your British Airways Executive Club account, go to the collect Avios points section, then under special offers, click department stores, you will find many deals including Selfridges, Argos and Debenhams. Find the Harrods offer and click through, Complete your purchase online at Harrods, spending at least £240 on the qualifying category,

Clothing, Accessories, Bags & Shoes purchases over £240.

Your Avios usually appear in your Executive Club account within a few weeks.

MARC JACOBS Logo The Tote Bag

£350.00

If you buy that £350 tote bag under the Harrods offer, you’d earn 4,900 Avios.

Or how about the iconic RIMOWA Original Cabin Suitcase (55cm) is a true travel classic, beautifully engineered to last you a lifetime of adventures. Even better, buy it now through the Harrods Avios offer and you’ll pocket a massive 14,980 Avios back, enough for a return trip to Europe in economy, or more than half the Avios you’d need for a one-way World Traveller Plus (premium economy) seat to New York.

What You Can Do With 4,200 Avios

If you take the £300 example above, the 4,200 Avios you earn could get you: A one-way flight in Zone 1 (short-haul under 650 miles) in off-peak economy. Or use them to part-pay a longer flight and knock some money off your fare.. Money off a long haul flight when using Avios to part pay. A step closer to a Club Europe upgrade on a short haul flight. You can also use Avios for hotel stays or car hire via Avios.com or the BA Holidays portal

Even if you only spend the minimum £240, you would still earn over 3,000 Avios which can make a dent in your next redemption.

Why You Should Join the British Airways Executive Club

If you are not already a member of the British Airways Executive Club, now is the time to join.

It is free to join and you will earn Avios every time you fly, book a BA Holiday, shop through the eStore or spend on a BA-linked credit card.

You can then redeem Avios for flights, upgrades, hotels, car hire and even experiences.

You also earn Tier Points on BA and oneworld partner flights which count towards elite status with benefits like lounge access, priority boarding and more.
