Luxury Meets Value: My Stay at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis in Zanzibar
Nestled along the pristine shores of Nungwi Beach, Nungwi Dreams by Mantis is a luxurious yet surprisingly affordable haven for travellers looking for the perfect blend of indulgence and value. Located on Zanzibar’s northernmost tip, this resort offers world-class service, breathtaking ocean views, and proximity to unforgettable experiences like swimming with turtles. After spending a few days here, I can confidently say this hotel is one of Zanzibar's hidden gems for anyone planning a trip to this tropical paradise.

Location, Location, Location!
When I first arrived at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis, the immediate sense of tranquility was overwhelming. The hotel is situated directly on a quiet, picturesque stretch of Nungwi Beach, one of Zanzibar's top-rated beaches known for its powdery white sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
For those adventurous travellers, the nearby at Baraka Aquarium Marine Turtles Conservation Pond offers a unique chance to swim with turtles a bucket list activity that’s just a short trip from the hotel.

Zanzibar Affordable Luxury Hotel at its Best
Zanzibar is often perceived as a luxury destination, but Nungwi Dreams by Mantis proves that you don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy premium accommodations. While it gives the charm and sophistication of a 5-star resort, it remains budget-friendly for travellers who want luxury without breaking the bank. In fact, it’s a top contender when comparing Zanzibar’s cost to Mauritius, offering equally stunning views and experiences for a fraction of the price.

So, is Zanzibar cheap or expensive? The answer largely depends on where you stay and how you plan your trip. Nungwi Dreams makes it possible to enjoy a lavish beachfront experience on a budget, making it an excellent choice for both honeymooners and families alike.

A Room with a View (and More) at Nungwi Dreams
The rooms at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis are beautifully designed, offering modern amenities and a touch of coastal elegance. Whether you choose a garden-view room or splurge on one with ocean views, comfort is guaranteed. My personal favorite feature? The private balcony where I enjoyed a morning with coffee and stunning sunsets with a glass of wine.

Nungwi Dreams Rooftop Bliss: Where Music Meets the Stars
One of the highlights of my stay was the rooftop bar, which offers panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding Nungwi coastline. This isn’t just any rooftop, it's a vibrant space where live bands perform under the starry Zanzibar sky. With a cocktail in hand and music playing, it’s the perfect way to end a day of exploring. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it a great spot to mingle with other travellers or simply soak in the tropical vibes.

Friendly Staff, Exceptional Service at Nungwi Dreams
From the moment I arrived, the staff at Nungwi Dreams went above and beyond to ensure my stay was perfect. Whether it was accommodating an early check-in, arranging transportation, or simply sharing a friendly smile, their dedication to guest satisfaction stood out. The hotel’s unique WhatsApp communication system with the front desk made it incredibly easy to request anything at any time, something I truly appreciated during my stay.

Nungwi Dreams Dining: A Culinary Delight
The dining experience here is just as memorable as the location. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, offering a wide variety of fresh fruits, local pastries, and made-to-order coffee. Poolside drinks and snacks were also a highlight, especially their fresh seafood dishes. Despite Zanzibar’s reputation for expensive dining, the food and drinks at Nungwi Dreams were reasonably priced, making it easy to enjoy a full culinary experience without worrying about overspending.
Planning Your Zanzibar Budget
How Much Money Do You Need for Zanzibar?
While Zanzibar can cater to luxury travellers, it's possible to budget around $50–$100 per day for food, activities, and transportation, especially if you choose accommodations like Nungwi Dreams by Mantis that offers great value.
Is Zanzibar Expensive for Tourists?
Compared to other tropical destinations like Mauritius, Zanzibar can be more affordable, especially when considering the cost of food, drinks, and local experiences. A local beer typically costs around $2–$3, while a meal at a mid-range restaurant might set you back $10–$15.

Practical Tips: What I Wish I Knew Before Visiting Zanzibar
Before you book your Zanzibar getaway, be sure to prepare for your trip with some essential knowledge:
Zanzibar Visa Requirements & Health Insurance: Most travellers need a visa to enter Zanzibar, which can be arranged online or upon arrival. Also, note that mandatory health insurance is required for tourists.
Zanzibar Malaria Precautions: While Zanzibar is relatively low-risk, malaria prevention is still advisable.
Zanzibar Hidden Gems: Beyond Nungwi’s beaches, explore the island’s spice farms, Jozani Forest, and the historic Stone Town for a well-rounded experience.
