Manchester Airport drop-off charges start at £5.50 for five minutes outside the terminals. A quick goodbye, a suitcase wrestled out of the boot and suddenly the holiday spending has begun before anyone has reached check-in.
But there is a free alternative.
Manchester Airport’s designated free drop-off area at JetParks 1 allows stays of up to 60 minutes, with passengers continuing to the terminals by free shuttle.
The important part is knowing which area to use, how long you can stay and when payment is due. Here’s my Plane Honest guide to dropping someone off without adding an unnecessary charge to the trip.

Quick Answer Express: Manchester Airport Drop-Off
Terminal drop-off: £5.50 for up to five minutes.
Up to ten minutes: £6.50.
More than ten minutes, up to thirty: £25.
Free alternative: the designated free drop-off area at JetParks 1.
Free-area postcode: M90 5AZ.
Payment deadline for paid terminal drop-off: midnight the day after your visit.
Picking someone up? Use the designated collection facilities rather than a drop-off zone.
Prices and arrangements checked on 18 October 2026. Check current airport information and signs before travelling.
Manchester Airport Drop-Off Charges
The published terminal drop-off tariff is:
Time in the drop-off zone | Charge |
Up to 5 minutes | £5.50 |
Over 5 minutes, up to 10 minutes | £6.50 |
Over 10 minutes, up to 30 minutes | £25 |
The maximum permitted visit is 30 minutes.
That jump after ten minutes is the detail I would remember. This is somewhere to unload and say goodbye, rather than discuss the entire holiday itinerary through an open car window.
Plane Tip: Have luggage ready to unload and check that passports, phones and bags are with the passengers before the driver leaves.

Where Is Manchester Airport’s Free Drop-Off?
The designated free drop-off area is at JetParks 1, using postcode M90 5AZ.
Passengers continue by free shuttle, which operates around the clock. The airport gives an approximate bus journey time of six minutes.
That is the journey time on the bus, not the complete time from turning into the car park to arriving at check-in. Allow extra time for unloading, waiting and boarding.
Important: the airport describes this shuttle as running from the car park towards the terminals only. A driver planning to accompany passengers should not assume there is a return shuttle.
How Long Can You Stay in the Free Area?
For standard users:
The maximum stay is 60 minutes.
Staying longer attracts a £25 overstay charge.
Returning within 30 minutes of leaving attracts a £25 recirculation charge.
The airport publishes separate provisions for Blue Badge holders. The free area is for dropping passengers off, not collecting them or leaving a car for the holiday.
Plane Honest: Free drop-off is a useful saving when the shuttle suits your party. If transfers make the journey difficult, compare the paid options rather than turning a £5.50 saving into an unnecessarily stressful departure.
Manchester Airport Terminal 2 Drop-Off
For the paid Terminal 2 drop-off area, the airport lists postcode M90 5PH.
Follow the current T2 drop-off signs as you approach. Decide whether you need a quick goodbye or enough time to park and help someone inside.
If you need to accompany passengers, look at Short Stay or Turn Up and Park instead of trying to stretch a forecourt visit.
Once the airport transport is sorted, you can plan the more enjoyable part of the departure:

Manchester Airport Terminal 3 Drop-Off
The airport lists postcode M90 1NN for Terminal 3 drop-off.
The same published drop-off tariff applies, starting at £5.50 for five minutes.

How Do You Pay Manchester Airport Drop-Off Charges?
Payment is due by midnight on the day after your visit.
For example, a Sunday visit must be paid by 23:59 on Monday.
Use the official payment website:
The airport also offers telephone payment on 0345 901 3318 and an AutoPay option for future visits. Its published payment guidance says unpaid visits can result in a £100 Parking Charge Notice, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
Plane Tip: Set a reminder as soon as you finish the visit. Getting home, making a cup of tea and forgetting all about the airport is understandable, but potentially expensive.
Keep your payment confirmation.
Can You Pick Someone Up in the Drop-Off Zone?
No. Use the designated pick-up facilities.
Manchester Airport warns that attempting to collect passengers from its terminal drop-off zones can attract a £100 charge.
The free JetParks drop-off area is also not a pick-up solution. Arrange the collection location before the passenger lands, rather than improvising while they are walking through arrivals.
If you want to enter the terminal or allow for an uncertain arrival time, compare the appropriate short-stay parking options.

Is Drop-Off Free for Blue Badge Holders?
The airport provides free terminal drop-off for a travelling passenger with a valid Blue Badge.
The passenger must show the badge to the traffic marshals when entering. This arrangement applies to drop-off; do not assume it also provides free collection or unrestricted parking.
Check the airport’s Blue Badge drop-off guidance before travelling, particularly if you need assistance.
Driving Yourself? Compare Manchester Airport Parking
A free drop-off is useful when somebody else is taking the car home.
If you are flying and leaving your vehicle behind, you need parking booked for the full trip. The designated free drop-off area cannot replace that.
I would compare three types of parking:
Parking option | What to compare |
Park & Ride | Total price, bus frequency, transfer time and luggage arrangements |
Multi-storey or terminal parking | Walking distance, terminal suitability and vehicle height restrictions |
Meet & Greet | Handover location, operator, collection process and booking conditions |
The lowest headline price is only part of the decision. An early flight, children, heavy luggage or accessibility needs can change which option represents good value.

Parking will not always be cheaper. But it is worth getting a quote before assuming a lift is automatically the lowest-cost option.
My guide includes parking comparison links, so you can check your actual dates rather than rely on a “from” price for a different week.
Plane Tip: When comparing quotes, use the same arrival and departure times. Check cancellation terms, transfer arrangements and any extra charges before booking.
Drop-Off Sorted? Choose Your Manchester Airport Lounge
Once you have worked out how you are reaching the terminal, you can decide whether a lounge fits your budget.
I have reviewed several Manchester options, including:
Aspire Lounge at Terminal 2 D Gates my visit to the newer Aspire space.
Escape Lounge at Manchester Terminal 2 my experience inside.
Manchester Airport Executive Lounge what I thought of the airport’s premium lounge option.
For the broader comparison, start with my Manchester Airport lounge guide.
Leave enough time for transfers, check-in and security before adding a lounge visit. Nobody needs to save money on drop-off and then sprint past the breakfast.

Plane Honest Final Verdict
Manchester Airport drop-off charges are easier to manage when you decide on the arrangement before arriving.
Choose the free JetParks option if the transfer works for your party. Choose terminal drop-off if convenience matters more, and pay promptly. Choose proper parking if you need to stay.
My priority would be avoiding that jump to £25 after ten minutes and remembering the payment deadline.
Save the money where it makes sense. Then decide whether the lounge breakfast deserves some of it.
