30% Transfer Bonus From American Express Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

30% Transfer Bonus From American Express Membership Rewards to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

By Mr Plane Guy | Virgin Points & Flying Club Guide

Disclosure: This article may contain affiliate links. If you click and buy, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

For a limited time, American Express cardholders can boost their Virgin Atlantic Flying Club balance with a generous 30% transfer bonus.

Normally, American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at a 1:1 ratio.

However, during this promotion, every 1,000 Membership Rewards points transferred will become 1,300 Virgin Points. A 30% transfer bonus means the same American Express points can unlock significantly more Virgin Atlantic reward flights and upgrades without spending another penny.

If you've been planning a Virgin Atlantic reward flight, Upper Class upgrade, or simply want to build your Virgin Flying Club balance faster, this could be one of the best opportunities of the year. The offer runs until 31 July 2026.

Virgin Red

What Is the Amex to Virgin Atlantic Transfer Bonus?

American Express Membership Rewards points can be transferred directly into Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

During this promotion:

  • 1,000 Amex Membership Rewards points = 1,300 Virgin Points

  • 10,000 Membership Rewards points = 13,000 Virgin Points

  • 50,000 Membership Rewards points = 65,000 Virgin Points

That extra 30% can make a huge difference when booking Virgin Atlantic reward flights or upgrading to Premium or Upper Class.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Why I Like Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

I've always considered Virgin Atlantic Flying Club one of the most underrated airline loyalty programmes in the UK.

Unlike some airline schemes, Virgin Points are surprisingly easy to earn through:

  • American Express Membership Rewards

  • Virgin Atlantic Credit Cards

  • Tesco Clubcard

  • Virgin Red

  • Virgin Atlantic flights

  • SkyTeam airline partners

Even better, Virgin Points never expire.

Best Ways to Use Virgin Points

Virgin Atlantic Reward Flights

One of my favourite uses of Virgin Points is booking Virgin Atlantic reward flights.

Depending on availability, you can find:

  • New York reward flights

  • Orlando reward flights

  • Barbados reward flights

  • Las Vegas reward flights

  • Caribbean reward flights

for far fewer points than many travellers expect.

Upgrade to Virgin Atlantic Premium

Already booked a cash fare? Using Virgin Points to upgrade from Economy to Premium can often provide excellent value. Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy A350 Review: Has Virgin Premium Lost Its Sparkle?

Upgrade to Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

This is where Virgin Flying Club really shines. Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Flight Review 787 Dreamliner London to LA

Instead of paying thousands of pounds for an Upper Class ticket, Virgin Points can dramatically reduce the cost through reward flights or upgrades.

Should You Transfer Membership Rewards Points?

Possibly, but only if you have a redemption in mind.

My rule is simple: Never transfer points speculatively.

Once Membership Rewards points become Virgin Points, they cannot be transferred back to American Express. Before transferring, check:

  • Reward flight availability

  • Upgrade availability

  • Your travel plans

  • Whether you can use the points within a reasonable timeframe

Boost Your Virgin Points Even Further with the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card

If this transfer bonus still leaves you a little short of the reward flight or upgrade you want, there's another easy way to boost your balance.

The Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card currently offers up to 18,000 bonus Virgin Points for new cardholders. If you're eligible and apply using my referral link, you'll also receive an extra 5,000 Virgin Points, giving you nearly 25,000 bonus points in total.

On top of the welcome bonus, you'll continue earning Virgin Points on your everyday spending, helping you reach your next reward flight or Upper Class upgrade even faster.

If you spend £10,000 in a card year, you'll also unlock a valuable Virgin Atlantic reward voucher, which can be used for an upgrade or companion ticket, depending on your Flying Club status.

London Calling… But Make It Luxurious

Flying home from New York JFK to London Heathrow soon? Before you queue up for your Pret flat white and gate seat, here’s a travel secret most people don’t know, you can use your Priority Pass to access the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse JFK.

Yes, that Clubhouse. The one usually reserved for Upper Class flyers and Virgin Gold members, with the mood lighting, cocktails, and à la carte dining that feels more “Soho House” than “airport lounge.”

Earn Virgin Red Points Every Time You Fly

👉 Searching flights through Virgin Atlantic directly gives you points for your next upgrade.

It’s now open to Priority Pass members between 5 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., which makes it perfect if you’re catching Virgin’s daylight flight back to London, my favourite way to avoid jet lag after a few packed days exploring the city.

Need ideas for what to do before you fly home? Check out My Top 10 Things to Do in New York (2025 Edition) or dive deeper with Things to Do in Brooklyn: Bagels, Bridges & That Street Everyone Photographs.

Where to Find the Virgin Atlantic JFK Clubhouse

Location: Terminal 4, Airside, just above Gates A4 & A5

Priority Pass Hours: 05:00 – 13:30 daily (Outside these hours, access is reserved for Virgin Upper Class and SkyTeam Elite flyers.)

Once you’ve cleared security, follow the signs for Gate A4, then look up. You’ll spot Virgin’s glowing red entrance tucked away like a members-only hideout in the clouds.

Inside, it’s part New York loft, part Heathrow chic, polished brass, mood lighting, and that unmistakable Virgin flair.

If you’ve just spent your last night at Arlo NoMad Hotel (my pick for views, vibes and surprising value), this is the perfect final stop before you fly.

Virgin Atlantic credit card Offer

If you want fast-track access to upgrades, the Virgin Atlantic Credit Cards are offering up to 18,000 bonus points right now and spending £10,000 a year gets you an upgrade or companion ticket. Use my referral link for 5000 extra points. Check if your eligible here

by the way you only need from 6000 to fly from London to New York, or from 29000 in Upper Class! I last flew for 10500 in Premium Economy, you can read all about it here.

Important: This isn’t financial advice. Credit cards are subject to status, terms and conditions, and affordability checks. Please consider your own financial situation before applying.

Inside the Clubhouse: New York Loft Meets Heathrow Chic

Forget the chaos downstairs, this place feels like a calm bubble of class above Terminal 4.

Here’s what to expect once you’re in:

Cooked-to-order breakfast and à la carte dining that easily rivals airport restaurants.

Signature Virgin cocktails (yes, they’ll pour you a pre-10 a.m. mimosa, no judgement). Pool table & games area if you fancy a pre-flight competition

Showers with luxury Flamingo Estate amenities.

Free Wi-Fi & plenty of charging points.

Luggage storage so you can roam hands-free.

Plane Tip: During Priority Pass hours, some food and drinks may not be fully complimentary, but even a paid Clubhouse breakfast beats a $15 airport bagel.

If you want to stretch your trip, check out Things to Do in New York: A Day Trip to Coney Island classic boardwalk fun before your flight.

How to Access the JFK Clubhouse with Priority Pass

Priority Pass members can access the Virgin Atlantic JFK Clubhouse between 05:00 and 13:30 daily.

Here’s how to get through the (red) velvet rope:

Arrive up to 3 hours before your flight.

Show your same-day outbound boarding pass.

Digital or physical Priority Pass cards are accepted.

Children under 2 go free.

Access is subject to capacity arrive early for the best chance of entry.

If you fly even twice a year, Priority Pass pays for itself. Whether it’s Heathrow, Gatwick, or here at JFK, you’ll never have to fight for a plug socket again.

Why It’s Perfect for London-Bound Travellers

Here’s the part most travellers miss: Virgin Atlantic runs a daytime flight from JFK to London Heathrow, departing around 08:20 and arriving back at 20:10 ideal for anyone who values actual sleep.

So instead of surviving the red-eye, you can enjoy:☕ A full English breakfast in the Clubhouse,🛁 A refreshing shower,💺 Six hours of calm in Premium Economy comfort,🌙 And a full night’s sleep once you’re back home.

Plane Tip: I recently flew this route, check out my Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy A350 Review for the full experience.
