There are airport hotels… and then there is the TWA Hotel.
Honestly, calling this place an “airport hotel” almost feels unfair.
This is part aviation museum, part retro time capsule, part luxury New York stopover and somehow also one of the coolest hotels I have ever stayed in.
I booked a day room before my JetBlue Airways flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport and within about 10 minutes I realised I had made a huge mistake…
I should have stayed longer.
Because this hotel is not just somewhere to sleep before a flight. It is an EXPERIENCE.
And if you love aviation, retro design, rooftop pools, runway views or anything connected to the golden age of travel, this might genuinely be the ultimate airport hotel ever created.

What Is The TWA Hotel At JFK?
The TWA Hotel is built inside the former iconic Trans World Airlines Flight Center at JFK Airport, the legendary 1960s terminal designed by architect Eero Saarinen.
Instead of demolishing it, they transformed it into a hotel while preserving almost everything that made it iconic. And the result is absolutely spectacular.
The second you walk inside, it feels like stepping straight into another era of aviation.
The split-flap departure boards. The sunken lounges. The red carpets. The curved futuristic architecture. The old-school TWA branding everywhere. It captures a moment in time that modern airports completely lost.
This is aviation glamour before flying became queueing for overpriced sandwiches and fighting for overhead bin space.

Is The TWA Hotel The Best JFK Airport Hotel?
I think this might genuinely be: the best airport hotel at JFK.
And possibly:
the most iconic airport hotel in America.
Compared to most JFK airport hotels, the TWA Hotel offers:
direct terminal access
rooftop runway views
aviation history
proper atmosphere
restaurants and bars
genuine personality.
Most airport hotels simply exist for convenience.
The TWA Hotel actually becomes part of the trip itself.

Location: Perfect For JetBlue Flights
One of the best things about staying here? If you are flying with JetBlue Airways, it could not be easier. This is by far the Best Hotel Near JFK Terminal 5!
The hotel sits directly connected to Terminal 5 via the AirTrain and pedestrian walkway, which meant I literally walked from the hotel straight to my flight in minutes.
No shuttle buses. No stress. No dragging luggage through traffic. Just a smooth walk through the terminal tunnel like some sort of aviation VIP.
If you are flying out of JFK early in the morning, or arriving late into New York, this location is unbeatable. It also makes an incredible stopover hotel if you are doing a short New York layover.

AirTrain transfers
rooftop pool detours

…without becoming a complete travel nightmare.

The Rooms: Surprisingly Quiet And Immaculate
Given this place sits basically ON the runway, I expected noise.
I heard absolutely nothing. The soundproofing here is honestly insane.
The design continues the retro aviation theme without feeling gimmicky.
Think:
mid-century furniture
vintage-style radios
old-school aviation details
huge windows overlooking JFK
crisp white bedding
spotless bathrooms
It somehow manages to feel nostalgic and modern at the same time.
And unlike some “Instagram hotels,” the actual room quality genuinely delivers.
One of the BEST parts was simply knowing I didn’t have a stressful commute back to JFK before my flight.
No risky New York traffic. No expensive Uber. No early morning airport panic.
I was already at JFK.
The Rooftop Infinity Pool Is The Real Showstopper
Now THIS is the bit that takes the hotel into another league entirely.
The rooftop infinity pool overlooking the runways at JFK is absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way.
You are literally swimming while watching aircraft taxi past one of the busiest airports in America.
For aviation geeks, this is basically Disneyland. The atmosphere up there in summer is incredible. People drinking cocktails. Watching departures. Sun setting over JFK. Aircraft roaring into the sky. It genuinely felt like one of the coolest airport experiences I have ever had.
Plane Tip: If you have a late evening flight from JFK this summer…
Book a day pass or day room. Spend a few hours by the pool, have some food, watch the planes, freshen up and then head straight to your overnight flight across the Atlantic.
That is luxury for less done properly.
Is A TWA Hotel Day Room Worth It?
Honestly?
I actually think booking a day room might be the smartest way to experience the TWA Hotel.
Especially if you:
have a long JFK layover
are flying overnight
want runway pool access
need a shower before a flight
want somewhere relaxing before crossing the Atlantic.
How Much I Paid For The TWA Hotel Day Room
For my stay, I booked a:
day room
rather than a full overnight stay
I booked a Deluxe King Room with Historic TWA View for $159.65.
Including taxes and fees, the final total came to $209.19.
Honestly?
Considering I got:
rooftop pool access
runway views
cocktails
a proper shower
somewhere quiet to relax before the flight
direct terminal access
…I actually thought it was VERY good value by New York standards.
Especially compared to:
sitting inside JFK Terminal 5 for hours
buying overpriced airport food
paying for airport lounge access separately.
Food, Bars & The Connie Aircraft
The hotel also has one of the coolest cocktail bars anywhere in New York…
Inside a Lockheed constellation Aircraft. Yes, really.
The restored “Connie” aircraft parked outside has been transformed into a retro cocktail lounge and it is brilliant.
There are also multiple restaurants, bars and food options throughout the hotel, meaning you genuinely do not need to leave the property during a stopover.
Again, this is where the TWA Hotel feels completely different from a normal airport hotel.
Most airport hotels are functional.
This place is memorable.

How To Get To The TWA Hotel At JFK
One of the best things about the TWA Hotel is just how EASY it is to reach.
The hotel sits directly next to Terminal 5 at JFK Airport, home to JetBlue Airways.
If you are flying JetBlue, you can simply walk to the hotel through the connecting passageways and AirTrain area within minutes.
If you are arriving at another JFK terminal:
Take the free JFK AirTrain between terminals
Exit at Terminal 5
Follow signs for the TWA Hotel
It is genuinely one of the easiest airport hotels in the world to access.
No shuttle buses. No traffic stress. No wondering if your Uber will ever arrive.
Just walk straight into one of the coolest hotels in aviation history.
TWA Hotel Vs A Normal JFK Airport Hotel
Most JFK airport hotels exist for one reason:
Convenience.
You check in late. Sleep. Leave early. Forget the experience entirely.
The TWA Hotel is completely different.
This is somewhere you actually WANT to spend time.
Compared to a standard airport hotel near JFK, the TWA Hotel offers:
iconic architecture
rooftop infinity pool runway views
aviation history
incredible plane spotting
direct terminal access
retro cocktail bars
genuine atmosphere and personality
It turns a boring airport overnight stay into part of the trip itself.
Honestly, most airport hotels try to make you forget you are near an airport.
The TWA Hotel makes the airport the main event.
Is The TWA Hotel Worth It?
Absolutely.
In fact, I think this is one of the few airport hotels in the world that people should actively go out of their way to experience.
Most airport hotels exist because you NEED them.
This one makes you WANT to stay at the airport.
And that is a huge difference.
Yes, it is more expensive than a standard JFK airport hotel.
But this is not a standard airport hotel.
This is aviation history turned into an experience.
Who Should Stay Here?
The TWA Hotel is perfect for:
Aviation geeks
Plane spotters
JetBlue Airways passengers
New York stopovers
Long layovers at JFK
Couples wanting something different
Anyone obsessed with retro travel glamour
If your idea of happiness is sitting by an infinity pool watching aircraft movements before a transatlantic flight…
You will LOVE this place.
