My New Favourite Way to Cross the Atlantic: Flying JetBlue to New York

If you’re planning your next New York holiday, searching for cheap flights to Amsterdam, or just wondering whether JetBlue flights are worth the hype, you’re in for a treat.
I’ve flown across the Atlantic more times than I can count, but this trip with JetBlue Airways genuinely surprised me. Could this be the best-value way to reach New York right now?
Booking JetBlue: The Search for a Deal
I first spotted a JetBlue Mint (their Business Class with lie-flat beds) fare to New York for around £1,000, not bad for a transatlantic flight with a proper bed and extra perks.
But between moving house, dealing with solicitors, removals, banks, and trying to run a blog, I blinked and the fare doubled. Typical.
So, I turned on Skyscanner Flights price tracking, and a few days later, JetBlue’s Economy dropped to around £240 from £480. Done deal.

JetBlue Check-In & My $140 Upgrade
Twenty-four hours before departure, I logged in for JetBlue online check-in and noticed a handful of Even More Space seats left for $140.
They included:
Priority security
Priority boarding
A complimentary alcoholic drink (sold on that alone, to be honest)
I always think of these seats as “premium economy without the label.” More space, a touch of comfort, and a better chance of sleeping, well worth it on an overnight crossing.
JFK JetBlue Terminal 5 & The TWA Hotel: Pre-Flight Retro Heaven
Before take-off, I checked into the iconic TWA Hotel at JFK a mid-century dream right beside Terminal 5. You can literally stroll from your room straight into JetBlue’s terminal.

If you’re flying JetBlue, the TWA Hotel is the ultimate pre-flight stay, pure retro glamour steps from Terminal 5. But for a true Plane Luxury Escape, you’ll find plenty of luxury-for-less gems across the city.

Pre Flight at JetBlue Terminal 5The TSA Comedy Hour
At security, I was told I could use the “priority lane.” Brilliant, I thought except, after walking around to a different entrance and queuing system, it led straight to the same point I was. I felt like I was in an episode of Come Fly With Me.
It took about 50 minutes to get through Terminal 5 security to departures, slow, messy, and very “New York”. Think: passengers juggling Stanley cups, French bulldogs, and approx 12 over spilling carry-on bags each. You get the picture.
Once airside, there wasn’t much to do. A few chain cafés, a Jamba Juice, a Dunkin’ Donuts that’s about it. If you’re expecting a lounge, don’t.
Boarding the JetBlue A321 neo
Once onboard the JetBlue A321 neo, things improved dramatically.
Legroom: Outstanding. Even in regular economy, space was generous, but in Even More Space, it felt premium. Then, a nice surprise, JetBlue sent a live notification to my phone: “Your bag has been loaded onto the aircraft.” That’s the kind of travel tech I love.
After a 20-minute anxious prayer/manifest for an empty seat next to me, I realised both E and F were still vacant. Then came the best sound in travel:
“Cabin crew, boarding complete.”
A full row to myself. Bliss.
When you log into your seat-back screen, it asks for your name. The crew then addressed me as Paul all flight. WTF?! Nice touch, JetBlue my new bestie.
JetBlue Inflight Entertainment: Movies, Live TV & Audible
JetBlue’s entertainment offering is one of the best in the sky. You get:
Live TV (Sky News, BBC, ESPN)
A solid range of JetBlue movies and box sets
A detailed moving map
And even Audible, perfect for podcasts and audiobooks
JetBlue might skip the pillows, but I don’t. The exact one I use is sold out, but this identical version on Amazon does the job perfectly.

Plane Tip: Don’t forget the little comforts. I never board without my noise-cancelling earbuds and travel adapter with USB-C ports both from Amazon, both worth every penny on long-haul flights.
JetBlue Food & Drinks: Functional but Tasty
JetBlue lets you pre-order meals before takeoff, catered by DIG Restaurant in New York a nice local touch.
My meal:
Chicken noodle dish
Cucumber & dill salad
Quinoa side
Everything was served cold in little black boxes not the most glamorous presentation, but super tasty and fresh, if a little salty. It’s the kind of honest, functional airline catering that actually works, fresh, balanced, and designed for a quick overnight hop rather than an Instagram post. All created by NYC restaurant DIG.
Breakfast was a simple banana bread served with 'cwaffee' (with that newyorker accent) ideal for a short overnight hop.
And here’s a feature I loved: The JetBlue Pantry. A small self-serve snack and water station available throughout the flight the kind of thoughtful touch that makes you feel looked after without having to flag down a crew member.
The crew were friendly, efficient, and genuinely upbeat a rarity these days.

The flight was smooth, clean, and right on time. The Wi-Fi actually worked from gate to gate a JetBlue signature.
Up front, the Mint cabin looked sleek and contemporary, not the over-the-top chintzy kind of luxury you get with Middle Eastern airlines, but smart, modern, and understated. I’ll be hunting down a good Mint deal soon, lie-flat seats to New York? Yes, please.

For £240 + $140 for Even More Space, I had one of the most comfortable transatlantic flights I’ve ever taken in economy.
JetBlue’s mix of style, practicality, and tech hits that perfect middle ground not budget, not premium, just right. Clean aircraft, great Wi-Fi, tasty food, thoughtful touches like the pantry, and genuinely nice crew.
The only disappointment? JFK Terminal 5. Everything else? 9/10.
