If you’ve ever found yourself wandering around Gatwick Airport, doing laps of the shops, eyeing up a £7 latte at Black Sheep or a £15 salad in Pret, pouncing for a seat, and forget even trying to get near a socket or USB port, then you know the struggle is real. That’s exactly why an airport lounge can get your trip off to a flying start. Today, I’m diving head first into the free buffet (having not eaten properly for days thanks to man flu) at the No1 Lounge Gatwick North Terminal and trust me, this isn’t just any old waiting area. Think comfy seating, unlimited food and drinks, and a chance to actually relax before your flight.

I’ve visited this lounge a few times over the years, but my most recent trip completely blew me away. Honestly, I don’t know if they’ve changed the chef or what, but the food quality was about 1000% better than before. Let’s get into it…

Where is No1 Lounge Gatwick North?

The No1 Lounge Gatwick North Terminal is easy to find once you’re through security. Just walk past WHSmith and follow the signs for “Lounges.” All of the lounges are located in the same area of the North Terminal. The No1 Lounge is on the ground floor, and if you’re heading to Clubrooms, that’s just one level down.

Because it’s on the ground floor, it’s also accessible for disabled passengers. The entrance is flat, and there’s step-free access throughout. That’s a big plus compared to some other lounges at other airports which can be tucked away up awkward stairs or in harder-to-reach corners.

Opening Times

The No1 Lounge Gatwick North is generally open from 4am until 9pm daily. This covers almost all flights out of Gatwick North, whether you’re catching an early morning easyJet hop to Europe or a long-haul departure later in the day.

Top Tip: If you have a Priority Pass, you can skip the hassle and walk right in. I barely waited a second before being welcomed inside. No queues, no stress, just straight into lounge mode!

First Impressions, Gatwick VIP Lounge Vibes

Walking into the lounge, you get that instant ahhh moment. This isn’t just a waiting area, this feels like a Gatwick VIP lounge. There’s a big central bar, comfy seating zones (including a TV lounge, workspace desks, and tables with runway views), and soft background music playing that instantly puts you at ease.

It feels far more premium than the price tag suggests (it’s only £24 for entry, if you use my trick!). Honestly, if you’re looking for the best lounge Gatwick North offers for the price, No1 Lounge is a serious contender.

The Food & Drinks – OMG, the Soup!

After days of battling man flu and surviving on 'Lemsip' I started with the soup of the day and ended up going back for three bowls! It was fresh, hot and so tasty!

The buffet spread had plenty of nutritious options, fresh salads bursting with colour, crunchy toppings, tasty dressings, and hot dishes that didn’t feel like they’d been sitting out for hours.

The ingredients were clearly fresh, which is not always a given in airport dining. Honestly, I don’t know if they’ve changed the chef, but the food quality was leagues above what I’d experienced here before. If you have an allergy or a dietary requirement, trust me they know what they are doing here, BTW the Vegan nut roast was amazing!

There’s also a central bar where you can order drinks. You’ll find wines, beers, soft drinks, and a cocktail menu. Don’t miss the signature cocktail, I highly recommend the No1 Signature Spritz.

Champagne is available too, but it’s an extra charge. The desserts were the one area that felt a bit underwhelming, just muffins when I visited, but honestly, after three bowls of soup and two plates of salad, I wasn’t exactly starving.

Atmosphere – Relax, Recharge, Refresh

The No1 Lounge Gatwick North isn’t just about food and drink. The vibe here is genuinely relaxing. There were plenty of plug sockets for my laptop and phone. The toilets were spotless, and I noticed staff constantly cleaning and tidying.

One thing that really impressed me: I overheard a passenger mention they had a nut allergy, and the lounge manager came over personally to go through the menu in detail. That kind of service is what makes you feel valued, it’s not just about filling seats, they actually care.

No1 Lounge vs Other Gatwick Lounges

Gatwick has a surprising number of lounges, and I’ve reviewed quite a few. Here’s how No1 Lounge stacks up:

  • My Lounge Gatwick North: More casual, good for groups, but food and drinks aren’t as polished.

  • BA Lounge Gatwick South: if you’re flying British Airways Club Europe, but for £24 the No1 Lounge gives you 80% of the experience at a fraction of the cost.

  • Aspire Lounge: Solid choice, but I personally find No1’s food a bit fresher.

So, is No1 the best lounge Gatwick North? Honestly, for the balance of price, food, and atmosphere – I’d say yes.
