Wizz Air Review 2026: Grotty Planes, Dense Seating & Would I Fly Again?

I managed to grab a Wizz Air flight from London Gatwick to Mykonos for under £50. Yes, an actual Greek island for less than a night out in Soho. But was it a bargain… or a punishment?
This is my real Wizz Air A321 review, including baggage, seating, onboard comfort, food, cleanliness and whether I’d actually fly Wizz again.
Booking the Flight: Cheap Fare… But the Add-Ons Add Up
The base fare was absurdly low, under £50 one-way to Mykonos. But Wizz Air, like all ultra-low-cost airlines, makes its money on extras:
Priority boarding + trolley bag: £18
Extra legroom seat: £20
Seat selection (if you don’t want roulette seating)
By the time you add what most people actually need, Wizz Air isn’t “cheap” it’s just modular pricing. Classic low-cost airlines strategy.

So how do I actually find the cheap fares then?
The Cheapest Way to Find Cheap Wizz Air Flights
One reason I grabbed a sub-£50 Wizz Air fare to Mykonos is simple: I don’t rely on airline websites alone.

Gatwick Airport Experience: Late Night, Quiet Terminal, Full Flight
My Gatwick to Mykonos departure was at 10pm, and the airport was eerily quiet. Most shops were shut. Don’t rely on late-night food options.
Despite the quiet terminal, the aircraft was absolutely full, 240 passengers on an Airbus A321. For context:

Priority Boarding… Or Priority Waiting on the Ramp
I paid £18 for Wizz Priority so I could:
Bring a trolley case
Bring a small under-seat bag
Board early
In theory.
In reality: Flying back from Mykonos to London I stood outside on the aircraft ramp for 20 minutes at 4am in gale-force winds. Priority meant absolutely nothing except a colder wait. This is peak Wizz logic.
Seating on the Wizz Air A321: Standard vs Extra Legroom
Originally, I was seated in 11B, middle seat, standard pitch, completely boxed in. I upgraded last minute to extra legroom at the over-wing exits for £20.
Unexpected win: The flight ended up light on the way back, so I had a whole row of three seats to myself.

Standard: 29 inches
Typical low-cost carrier squeeze
My verdict:
Standard seats = uncomfortable on full flights
Extra legroom = worth every penny

Wizz Air Trolley Bag: For Those Who Need More Space
If your essentials don’t fit in the free carry-on bag, consider upgrading to a trolley bag:
Size: 55 x 40 x 23 cm (including handles and wheels).
Weight: Max 10 kg.
Cost: Included with WIZZ Priority or available as an add-on.
Placement: Stored in the overhead compartment.

Cabin Cleanliness: Grotty Is the Only Word
Blunt truth: The aircraft was dirty.
Chewing gum on tray table!
Cabin floor full of crisps at the start of the flight.
You could tell it hadn’t had a proper deep clean between rotations
Wizz turns aircraft around fast and cleanliness clearly suffers.
Wizz Air Seats
Credit where it’s due, the tray table is mounted higher on the seat, which means:
Your knees don’t dig into it
You actually have usable knee space even at 29 inches
It’s a small design detail, but one of the best economy seat layouts I’ve seen on an ultra-low-cost airline.
Food & Drink Onboard: Limited and Expensive
This was the most depressing inflight menu I’ve seen in a while:
Gin & tonic: ~£10
Only hot food option: cheese & tomato toastie
No real meals. No variety. No value.

You’d think my answer would be no.
But honestly?
Yes, I would.
Because when you catch Wizz on a cheap fare to somewhere like Mykonos, and you know how to manage the airline properly, it still unlocks ridiculous value.
You just have to fly it with your eyes wide open.
My Top Wizz Air Survival Tips (These Matter)
These are non-negotiable if you’re flying Wizz:
✅ Check in online as early as possible If a flight is oversold, the last people to check in are usually the first to be offloaded.
✅ Print your boarding pass Some destinations (including Mykonos) do not accept mobile boarding passes on the return.
✅ Pre-book seats if travelling together Otherwise, you will be split up.
✅ Bring wipes & hand sanitiser The toilets are tiny. The sinks are useless. Enough said.
✅ Consider a face mask on full flights These aircraft are packed tightly.
