If you're heading to Aruba, chances are you'll arrive through one airport.
Thankfully, it's one of the easiest Caribbean airports to navigate.
Located just minutes from the island’s beaches and resorts, Aruba’s airport is small, modern, and refreshingly efficient.
Officially known as Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA), it is the main gateway to Aruba and the Dutch Caribbean.
Here’s everything you need to know about arriving in Aruba, getting to your hotel, and starting your holiday the plane-smooth way.

Aruba Airport Overview
The island is served by one international airport:
Queen Beatrix International Airport
Airport code: AUA
This is the only international airport in Aruba and the main gateway for visitors arriving from Europe, North America, and other Caribbean islands.
The airport is located just 3 km from Oranjestad, Aruba’s capital, and roughly 10–15 minutes from most resorts on Palm Beach and Eagle Beach.
Despite being relatively compact, Aruba Airport handles millions of travellers each year thanks to the island’s popularity as a winter sun destination.
Aruba Airport Code (AUA)
If you're searching for flights to Aruba, you'll often see the airport listed as AUA.
This is the international airport code for Queen Beatrix International Airport.
Airlines and booking sites use this code when displaying flights and routes, so searching “AUA flights” or “London to AUA” can sometimes help when comparing options.
Aruba Airport Terminal Layout
Aruba Airport operates from a single integrated terminal, which makes it one of the simplest Caribbean airports to navigate.
Arrivals
Arrivals are located on the ground floor.
Passengers exit into the public arrivals hall where you'll find:
taxis
car rental desks
hotel transfer representatives
After landing, travellers can also book Aruba Airport VIP services, including fast-track hosting and lounge access before departure.
Departures
Departures are located on the upper level.
This area includes:
airline check-in desks
security screening
departure gates

The airport has recently expanded as part of its Gateway 2030 modernisation project, improving passenger capacity and facilities.
Inside the terminal you'll find:
duty-free shopping
cafés and restaurants
souvenir stores
free Wi-Fi
airline lounges
Distances between gates are short, and most of the airport can be walked in just a few minutes.

Aruba Airport Lounges
Travellers looking for a quieter place to relax before departure can access the International VIP Lounge.
The International VIP Lounge at Aruba Airport is the main lounge available to travellers departing from AUA. Priority Pass members can enter using their membership:
Priority Pass
The lounge is located in the terminal near Gate 2.
Typical opening hours are 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily.
Facilities generally include:
complimentary Wi-Fi
snacks and light refreshments
coffee and soft drinks
up to two complimentary alcoholic drinks
While not the largest airport lounge in the Caribbean, it provides a comfortable place to unwind before your flight.
For frequent travellers, a lounge membership can quickly pay for itself.
Flights to Aruba From Europe
Aruba is well connected to North America, but there are also direct flights from Europe, making it an easy Caribbean escape.
From the UK you can fly direct with:
British Airways
Flights operate from London Gatwick to Aruba, with a flight time of around 9–10 hours.
You can read more about this route here:
JetBlue also operates several routes to Aruba from major US cities. You can read my full

Travellers from mainland Europe can also reach Aruba via the Netherlands.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines operates flights from:
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
Flights from Amsterdam to Aruba take roughly 10 hours and are one of the most convenient connections for European travellers heading to the Dutch Caribbean.

Plane Tip: Skip the Airport Chaos with VIP Meet & Greet
If you want to make your departure from Queen Beatrix International Airport feel a little more first class, there’s a surprisingly affordable service many travellers don’t know about.
You can book a VIP departure meet-and-greet service that fast-tracks you through the airport.
With this service an airport assistant meets you at the terminal and helps guide you through the departure process.
Typically this includes:
Personal airport meet and greet
Fast-track through security
Assistance with luggage and check-in
Escort to your departure gate or lounge
For travellers flying during busy holiday periods, this can remove a lot of the stress from departure day.

Getting From Aruba Airport to Your Hotel
One of the best things about arriving in Aruba is how close the airport is to the island’s main hotel areas.
Most transfers take between 10 and 20 minutes.
Here are the main options.
Aruba Airport Taxi
Taxis are the most common way to reach your hotel.
You'll find them waiting outside the arrivals hall.
Taxis in Aruba do not use meters. Instead, fares are fixed by the government depending on destination zones.
Typical fares:
Palm Beach≈ $30–$33
Eagle Beach≈ $23–$27
Oranjestad≈ $13–$15
Drivers usually accept US dollars, which are widely used across the island.
Plane Tip: Arrive in Aruba in Style (For Less Than a Taxi)
After landing at Queen Beatrix International Airport, you’ll need to get to your hotel — and taxis in Aruba can be surprisingly expensive.
One option I found that offers serious luxury for a surprisingly reasonable price is a private SUV airport transfer.
Aruba Hotel Transfers
Many resorts offer private transfers.
Drivers typically wait outside arrivals holding a sign with your name.
This is often the easiest option if you're staying at large resorts such as the Riu Palace Aruba.
Aruba Car Rental
Renting a car is a great option if you want to explore beyond the resort areas.
Major international rental companies including Hertz, Avis and Budget operate desks inside the arrivals hall.
Driving is on the right side of the road, and the island is relatively easy to navigate.
Having a car allows you to explore places like:
Arikok National Park
Aruba’s rugged north coast
hidden beaches
Aruba Public Bus (Arubus)
The island’s public bus network, Arubus, offers an affordable way to reach the hotel areas.
The bus stop is located about 5 minutes from the airport terminal.
Typical fare:
≈ $2.60 per person
This option works best for travellers with light luggage staying near the main routes.
Aruba Airport to Palm Beach
Palm Beach is Aruba’s main resort district and where most visitors stay.
The distance from Aruba Airport to Palm Beach is roughly 10 km (6 miles).
Typical travel times:
Taxi10–15 minutes
Private transfer10–15 minutes
Bus20–30 minutes
Taxi fares usually cost around $30–$33.

Best Areas to Stay in Aruba
Most travellers visiting Aruba stay in one of three main areas near the island’s best beaches.
Palm Beach
The island’s main resort strip with large hotels, restaurants and nightlife.
This is where you'll find resorts like the Riu Palace Aruba.
Eagle Beach
A quieter area with wide white-sand beaches, often ranked among the best beaches in the Caribbean.
Renaissance Island / Flamingo Beach
One of Aruba’s most famous attractions.

Plane Tips for Arriving in Aruba
A few quick tips to make your arrival smoother.
Transfers are very quick
Most resorts are less than 15 minutes from the airport.
US dollars are widely accepted
You rarely need local currency.
Pre-book transfers during busy periods
Winter and holiday seasons can be busy.
Flights from Europe arrive mid-afternoon
This is when the airport tends to be busiest.
How Busy Is Aruba Airport?
Aruba Airport can become busy during the winter sun season, particularly between December and March when travellers from Europe and North America escape colder weather. Most long-haul flights from Europe arrive in the afternoon, which means baggage reclaim can be busiest during this period.
Final Boarding Call
Aruba Airport is refreshingly simple. It’s compact, modern, close to the island’s resorts, and easy to navigate, which means you can go from plane to beach in under 20 minutes.
Whether you grab a taxi, arrange a hotel transfer or rent a car to explore the island, you’ll likely be checking into your hotel and ordering your first Caribbean cocktail within 20 minutes. Not bad at all.
