Premium Economy Airlines Ranked: Luxury For Less or Just Expensive Economy?
By Mr Plane Guy, Travel Blogger, Flight Expert & Professional Premium Economy Seat Tester
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you click and buy, I might earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps fund my ongoing airport lounge “research,”
Long-haul seat testing and emotionally expensive airport sandwiches.
From Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy and Singapore Airlines to Norse Atlantic, Emirates and Scoot… which premium economy airlines are genuinely worth paying for in 2026?
Meanwhile economy on some airlines now feels like a social experiment and patience management.
Which is exactly why airlines are investing and improving their premium economy product.
It usually has more space, more comfort, better food, priority check-in and extra baggage.
Without needing to remortgage your house for a flat bed, a tiny bowl of nuts and a mouthful of fizzy wine.
But here’s the problem: Not all premium economy cabins are actually GOOD.
Some genuinely improve travel. Others feel like: “economy with a free prosecco and slightly less back pain.”
After flying various premium economy products myself, reviewing airlines, travelling as cabin crew and obsessing over seat maps far more than a normal person probably should…
…here are the premium economy airlines I think are genuinely worth paying for in 2026 some not so much.
Looking for airport lounge access? Most Premium Economy tickets don't include lounge access, but I'll show you the best ways to get it further down this guide.
What Actually Makes Premium Economy Worth It?
For me, premium economy isn’t just about:
seat width
legroom
recline
or slightly shinier cutlery
It’s about whether the entire journey feels noticeably LESS stressful than economy.
That means:
airport experience
boarding
seat comfort
sleep quality
food
cabin atmosphere
service
baggage
and whether you arrive feeling vaguely human

Why Priority Pass Makes Premium Economy MUCH Better
One thing many premium economy travellers quickly realise? The airport experience matters almost as much as the seat itself.
Especially on:
overnight flights
delays
summer airport chaos
long-haul routes
or connections. Check out my Priority Pass review and guide

This is exactly why I think Priority Pass fits premium economy travellers PERFECTLY.
Because premium economy passengers are usually looking for:
comfort
less stress
and smarter travel
…without paying full business class prices.
Personally?
I’d rather:
escape the gate crowds
get food before boarding
charge my devices
and sit somewhere relaxing
…than spend three hours fighting for a plug socket near Gate 52.

Insider Crew Secret: Premium Economy Passengers Are Often The MOST Demanding
Here’s a slightly controversial insider observation from my airline crew days…
Premium economy passengers are often FAR more demanding than business class passengers. Business class passengers are usually:
quieter
more experienced
more relaxed
and generally just get on with the flight
Meanwhile premium economy passengers often expect:
business class treatment
business class service
business class attention
…while technically still flying premium economy. And honestly, I completely understand why.
Because premium economy is expensive now. They naturally expect the experience to feel premium.
The airlines that succeed in premium economy are the ones that understand:people are paying for emotional comfort as much as physical comfort.

1. Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy, Still The Best Overall
Virgin Atlantic still delivers the best overall premium economy experience for me.
And the reason isn’t just the seat.
It’s the whole atmosphere.
Virgin’s premium economy feels:
stylish
relaxed
genuinely premium
and noticeably more enjoyable than many competitors
The cabin crew are usually excellent (not as good now I've left!).The food was pretty good on my last flight, more about Virgin Atlantic's onboard menus. You can even pre order your specific meal choice before the flight. The drinks selection is good and the overall experience feels special enough to justify the upgrade. Virgin also understands something many airlines forget: Premium economy passengers want to FEEL premium.
Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy also won “World’s Best Premium Economy” at the Skytrax awards recently and honestly?
What you get on Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy:
Priority dedicated Premium check-in area.
Priority Boarding
Check up to two bags weighing up to 23 kg each, plus one 10 kg piece of hand luggage
Priority Baggage Your luggage is tagged to be among the first off the plane at your destination.
Seats are wider than standard economy, feature adjustable headrests, a dual-position footrest, and deep recline.
Complimentary glass of bubbly and a dedicated Premium menu card.
Meals are served on china plates with metal cutlery and a linen-covered tray.
Larger personal screen with hundreds of hours of on-demand entertainment, plus in-seat AC power and USB ports.
Complimentary premium wines, spirits, and beers throughout the flight.
Overnight flights also include an upgraded amenity kit.

2. Singapore Airlines Premium Economy, The Most Polished Experience
Singapore Airlines rarely does anything badly and premium economy is no exception.
The seats look so well designed and considered. The service on Singapore Airlines is consistently excellent and polished.
Available on selected Airbus A350, A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, Singapore Airlines Premium Economy is one of the strongest Premium Economy products in the world.

What You Get on Singapore Airlines Premium Economy:
Wider seat (up to 19.5 inches) with 38-inch pitch
Adjustable footrest and calf rest
125-degree recline designed not to intrude on the passenger behind
Priority check-in, boarding and baggage delivery
"Book the Cook" pre-order dining service
Complimentary Champagne, wines and premium drinks
Enhanced meal service served on proper crockery
35kg checked baggage allowance (route dependent)
110% KrisFlyer miles earning rate
13.3-inch HD entertainment screen
Power socket, USB charging ports and complimentary Wi-Fi on most aircraft

Singapore Airlines is extremely hard to beat. I haven't experienced Singapore Airlines Premium Economy product myself, but I did try business class a long time ago in the early days of Mr Plane Guy!
If you are thinking of booking Singapore Airlines business then check out a virtual tour of the Premium Economy cabin on Singapore Airlines 777.
3. KLM Premium Comfort, Quietly Becoming One Of Europe’s Best
KLM’s Premium Comfort cabin has improved massively and I still think many travellers underestimate it.
KLM's Premium Comfort Class is available on long-haul Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft, offering a dedicated cabin between Economy and Business Class with extra space, improved dining and SkyPriority benefits.
What You Get with KLM Comfort Class:
Dedicated Premium Economy cabin in a 2-4-2 layout
Up to 7 inches of extra legroom compared to Economy
Wider seats with adjustable leg and footrests
Up to 20cm of recline
Business Class blanket and large pillow
Eco-friendly amenity kit
Welcome drink before departure
Upgraded meals served on porcelain tableware
Complimentary beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks
SkyPriority check-in, security and boarding
13.3-inch entertainment screen
USB-A, USB-C and power outlet at every seat
Free messaging Wi-Fi package
Up to two checked bags on Standard and Flex fares
KLM Premium Comfort is a solid all-round Premium Economy product. The dedicated cabin should make it feel noticeably quieter than Economy, while the extra legroom, upgraded meals and SkyPriority perks make it particularly good value on overnight flights to North America and Asia.
You don't get access to a KLM lounge with a KLM’s Premium Comfort ticket, but I will leave my review here of KLM Crown Lounge: My Honest Amsterdam Schiphol Lounge Review.
You could visit Aspire lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol and use a Priority Pass to get in!
You also may need this How to Get from Schiphol Airport to the City Centre Amsterdam.

Plane Tip: You should also get an airplane Bluetooth adaptor, so you can pair your headsets with your inflight entertainment when flying Premium Economy.
4. Air France Premium Economy
Air France’s Premium Economy bridges the gap between standard Economy and Business Class, offering wider, fixed-shell or standard reclining seats with more legroom, increased baggage allowances, and upgraded, French-inspired meals.
The Premium Economy experience features several upgrades across your entire journey:
What you get on Air France Premium Economy:
Enjoy priority access at check-in desks, bag drop, security checks, boarding gates, and baggage delivery.
You can check up to 2 bags (up to 23 kg / 50 lbs each).
In the cabin, you can bring two pieces of hand luggage plus one personal accessory, with a combined weight of up to 12 kg (26 lbs).
Note: Standard Premium Economy tickets do not include complimentary airport lounge access, but access can sometimes be purchased at the counter depending on the airport and availability.

Seats provide up to 40 inches (102 cm) of legroom and a seat width of about 19 to 20 inches.
Seats come equipped with adjustable headrests, footrests, and leg rests.
Depending on the aircraft (such as the older Boeing 777s), the seat features a fixed hard-shell design, meaning your seat slides forward without intruding on the passenger behind you.
Each seat is fitted with a universal power port, USB port, personal reading light, noise-cancelling headphones, and a larger personal entertainment screen.
Meals feature a multi-course menu including a starter, cheese, and dessert inspired by French culinary traditions. More about Air France Premium Economy.

5. British Airways Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) Better Than People Say
British Airways Premium Economy gets criticised constantly online.
Sometimes fairly.
But I still think World Traveller Plus can absolutely be worth it on long overnight routes.
Especially compared to standard BA economy.
What you get on British Airways World Traveller Plus:
wider seats
more recline
better food
priority boarding
extra baggage
and a quieter cabin
And on newer aircraft like the British Airways Boeing 787, the cabin feels noticeably better than older BA aircraft.

If you want a cabin bag that actually works across different airlines, I’ve tested what I think is the best carry-on suitcase for international travel here.

6. Riyadh Air Premium Economy
the Newest Premium Economy Riyadh Air and it looks pretty impressive, this is the Premium Economy product to watch! If you don't mind skipping the champers, Riyadh Air is a dry airline and does not serve alcohol onboard.

What you get on Riyadh Air Premium Economy
38-inch seat pitch
19.2-inch wide seats
4K seat-back entertainment
Bluetooth audio pairing
AC power and USB-C charging
Privacy wing headrests
Premium dining
Riyadh Air's latest-generation cabin design

While the airline has just recently launched commercial operations, Riyadh Air's Premium Economy cabin already looks set to compete directly with Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines and Emirates Premium Economy standards. The combination of modern seat design, high-definition entertainment, Bluetooth connectivity and generous personal space suggests this could become one of the strongest Premium Economy products in the Middle East.
Mr Plane Guy Prediction: 9/10 (subject to first flight review)
7. Emirates Premium Economy, Good… But Very Overhyped
I know this opinion may upset some aviation people…but I really didn’t love Emirates Premium Economy.
Now yes:
the cabin looks beautiful
the branding is premium
the seats are comfortable
and the catering is decent
BUT…
The pricing is often absolutely ridiculous and once premium economy starts approaching business class pricing? I expect MUCH more.
Especially because Emirates markets this product heavily as: luxury premium economy.
For me personally? It didn’t fully deliver that feeling. Unfortunately, Emirates Premium Economy is housed in a relatively small cabin between Business Class and Economy. I tried it on a brand spanking new A350 but honestly for 7 hours all I heard was screaming babies due to the location of this cabin!
Available on selected Airbus A380, Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 aircraft, Emirates Premium Economy offers extra space, upgraded dining and dedicated cabin crew.
Emirates Premium Economy, What You Get:
Dedicated Premium Economy cabin
2-4-2 seating on A380/A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft
Up to 40 inches of seat pitch
Wide 19.5-inch seats
8-inch recline with calf and leg rests
Adjustable 6-way headrest
Welcome drink before departure
Multi-course meals served on Royal Doulton china
Premium wines and Chandon sparkling wine
Sustainable amenity kit on longer flights (no ear plugs though!)
Hot towel service during the flight
Large 13.3-inch HD entertainment screen
Bluetooth connectivity for personal headphones
In-seat power and USB charging
Dedicated Premium Economy check-in in Dubai
It's sometimes on offer, but honestly it's a great investment piece!
Flying from Dubai? Plaza Premium Lounge Dubai Airport Review: Is It Worth It?
8. Norse Atlantic Premium, Huge Seats, Very Little Premium Service
This might be controversial…
…but Norse Atlantic actually has one of the BEST premium economy seats for sheer physical space. The legroom is massive. Seriously massive.
In terms of space alone, it almost starts feeling closer to old-school business class than premium economy. Especially for sleeping.
BUT…
The service absolutely does NOT feel premium at all.
You’re basically getting:
an excellent seat
with fairly standard low-cost airline service wrapped around it
Which honestly sums up Norse Atlantic perfectly.
The hard product? Very good. The soft product? Extremely economy.
Still…If:
comfort
seat space
and value
matter more to you than champagne and fancy tableware?
Norse Atlantic Premium can actually be fantastic value.

Norse Atlantic's Premium cabin sits somewhere between traditional Premium Economy and a low-cost airline product.
You get a much larger seat, extra legroom, complimentary meals and drinks, plus priority airport services. However, this isn't a full-service airline experience like British Airways, Virgin Atlantic or Singapore Airlines. There is no airport lounge access included and Wi-Fi is usually available for an additional charge.
For travellers looking for more comfort without paying Business Class prices, Norse Premium can offer surprisingly good value.
What You Get in Norse Premium:
43-inch seat pitch with a deep recline and extendable leg rest
Wider seats in a 2-3-2 cabin layout
Priority check-in desks at the airport
Priority boarding before Economy passengers
Two complimentary meal services on long-haul flights
Complimentary soft drinks, beer, wine and prosecco during meal services
Pillow and blanket provided
Personal touchscreen entertainment system
USB charging and universal power outlets
For travellers heading to New York or LA who want extra comfort without spending thousands on Business Class, Norse Premium can be an excellent middle ground.
9. TUI Premium, Underrated For Holiday Flights
TUI Premium doesn’t feel like a traditional corporate premium economy product.
And that’s probably why it works.
It feels:
relaxed
holiday-focused
leisure-oriented
The seats are decent. The atmosphere is calmer than economy and for Caribbean or Mexico routes, the upgrade can absolutely be worth it.
Would I rank it above Virgin or Singapore? No. But for leisure travel? TUI Premium is genuinely underrated. More about Tui Premium cabin.
If you're flying TUI Premium from Manchester you should get access to 1903 Lounge Manchester Airport, here is my full honest review. Flying from Gatwick? It's normally No1 lounge London Gatwick North terminal, here is a full review.

What you get on TUI Premium:
Airport Lounge Access: Complimentary access to lounges in the UK and select international destinations
Fast-Track Security
Dedicated check-in desks and first-boarding privileges.
10kg cabin baggage and 25kg hold baggage allowance.
A wider seat and a generous 38-inch seat pitch (compared to 32 inches in standard economy), complete with adjustable headrests and footrests.
On outbound flights, you receive a luxury amenity kit, a blanket and pillow, and noise-reducing headphones for the in-flight entertainment system.
Access to your own USB and standard power sockets.
Complimentary beers, wines, spirits, and hot/cold soft drinks available throughout the entire flight (excluding Champagne and Prosecco).

10. Scoot Plus, Not Really Premium Economy… But Still Interesting
Scoot Plus is a strange one. Because technically? It’s not really traditional premium economy. It’s more:“extra-legroom low-cost long-haul seating.” But for budget-conscious travellers, it can still make a lot of sense. Especially across Asia-Pacific routes.
You get:
more space
larger seats
extra comfort
priority boarding (well it was quite a free for all, I then spent over half an hour waiting on the jetty)…but the overall experience is still VERY low-cost airline.

Which is completely fine if you understand what you’re booking. However the price of my ticket was in line with the same price I paid Emirates Premium Economy for over £600!
Scoot Plus works best when:
fares are cheap
you want extra comfort
but don’t care massively about premium service

What you get on Scoot Plus:
seats with extra legroom (38-inch pitch) and up to a 6-inch recline.
Check up to 30kg of baggage and bring up to 15kg in cabin baggage.
Receive a complimentary hot meal or light bite, alongside one beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) from the ScootCafe.
Priority check-in and priority boarding.
In-seat charging and a complimentary 200MB Wi-Fi allowance.
How To Get Airport Lounge Access With A Premium Economy Ticket
One downside of premium economy?
Most airlines DON’T include lounge access.
Which is exactly why many premium economy travellers end up using Priority Pass instead.
Because once you combine:
premium economy seating
airport lounge access
priority boarding
and occasional upgrade offers
…the whole journey starts feeling much closer to business class.
Especially on:
overnight flights
long-haul routes
delays
and chaotic summer travel days
One Of The BIGGEST Premium Economy Upgrade Secrets
One thing many travellers don’t realise?
Premium economy can actually be one of the BEST ways to strategically access business class. Because operational upgrades often happen from premium economy first.
Especially when:
premium economy is oversold
business class has empty seats
or airlines need to rebalance cabins
It is MUCH easier for airlines to move someone from premium economy into business class than from economy into business class.
Which means premium economy passengers are often sitting in a very strategic position.
Airline Upgrade Auctions Are Becoming MUCH More Common
Another thing travellers should absolutely watch for?
Upgrade offers after booking.
Many airlines now:
email upgrade deals
offer discounted upgrades at check-in
run bidding systems
or trial upgrade auctions
Virgin Atlantic has done this for years.
British Airways has also been trialling auction-style upgrade systems on selected routes.
Some of these offers can actually be VERY good value.
Particularly if:
business class isn’t selling well
the flight isn’t full
or the airline wants additional ancillary revenue
One Of The Smartest Premium Travel Strategies Right Now
One of the smartest strategies in 2026 is often:
booking premium economy using points or miles
THEN targeting business class upgrade offers
Because the gap from:Premium Economy → Business Class
…is usually much smaller than:Economy → Business Class.
This is EXACTLY why understanding:
airline upgrade systems
loyalty programmes
check-in upgrade offers
and points redemptions
matters so much now.
I’ve personally used points and strategic upgrades myself, including flying Qatar Airways business class for less than £250 in taxes and fees using Avios.
The BEST Way To Find Cheap Premium Economy Flights
One of the smartest ways to fly premium economy is simply catching deals early.
Because premium economy pricing fluctuates massively.
Some flights are:
fantastic value
Others feel like: “someone in revenue management completely lost their mind.”
This is why I genuinely rate:
Jack’s Flight Club
Skyscanner
Google Flights alerts
and fare tracking tools
Jack’s Flight Club is especially useful for:
premium economy deals
mistake fares
business class sales
long-haul discounts
✨ Search Premium Economy Flights Worldwide on SkyScanner
So… Is Premium Economy Actually Worth It In 2026?
Increasingly? Yes.
Especially on:
overnight flights
long-haul travel
leisure routes
and flights where economy has become genuinely unpleasant
The trick is booking SMARTLY.
Because premium economy works best when:
prices are reasonable
the route is long enough
and the airline genuinely improves the experience
Once you combine:
a strong premium economy seat
lounge access
priority boarding
baggage perks
and reduced airport stress
…the entire journey starts feeling dramatically better. Without needing to spend £5,000 on business class.
And that’s exactly where “luxury for less” travel lives now.
