Every time I travel through Heathrow, I see people paying the full Heathrow Express fare.
Most travellers have absolutely no idea you can often get exactly the same journey for around £10 instead of £26.
The catch?
You need to book at least 30 days before travel. Heathrow Express Advance Discounted Single tickets start from £10 when booked online 30+ days in advance, compared to the normal £26 Standard Class single fare.
For a train journey that only takes around 15 minutes between Heathrow and London Paddington…
that’s a surprisingly big saving. Especially if you’re travelling as a couple or family.

Heathrow Express: Practical Things To Know
Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 → Paddington: around 15 minutes
Heathrow Terminal 5 → Paddington: around 21 minutes
Terminal 4 requires a quick transfer connection
Trains usually depart every 15 minutes
First trains normally start from around 05:00
Free onboard Wi-Fi available
More luggage-friendly than the Tube or Elizabeth Line
Dedicated luggage racks onboard
Paddington platforms are usually 6 & 7
If you’re travelling with large suitcases, family luggage or just want the least stressful Heathrow transfer possible, Heathrow Express is definitely one of the easiest options.
For many travellers, the savings are worth it. Because Heathrow airport costs are becoming ridiculous now. Once you combine:
airport food
airport parking
coffees
luggage
hotels
transport
…saving £16 per person each way suddenly matters quite a lot.
Save on Heathrow Express… Then Save on Heathrow Airport Lounges Too
If you're flying from Heathrow, there's another travel cost most people completely overlook.
They'll spend money saving time on Heathrow Express… then walk straight into one of the most expensive airport terminals in Europe.
£7 coffee.
£15 breakfast.
£10 glass of wine.
Nowhere to sit.
Heathrow is Europe’s busiest airport, so anything that reduces stress before flying can genuinely improve the experience.
You can easily spend £20–£40 before your flight without even realising it, and still end up squeezed into a crowded departure area searching for a free seat.
Heathrow actually has a surprising number of airport lounges that accept Priority Pass. That means complimentary food, drinks, Wi-Fi, comfortable seating and a much calmer start to your trip.
If you're already saving money on your Heathrow Express ticket, it can make sense to look at lounge access too.
I've reviewed multiple Heathrow lounges across different terminals, including Plaza Premium, Club Aspire, No1 Lounge and more.
For frequent Heathrow travellers, one or two lounge visits can often feel better value than spending the same money on airport food, drinks and finding somewhere comfortable to sit.
Heathrow Express Vs Elizabeth Line
This is probably the REAL Heathrow transport debate now.

Heathrow Express
Around 15 minutes to Paddington
Fastest Heathrow train
Trains every 15 minutes
More luggage-friendly
Quieter overall
Much more expensive at full fare
Elizabeth Line
Cheaper standard fares
More Central London stops
Better for East London
Slower journey overall
Can become VERY crowded
Honestly?
At £26 each way, I’d probably consider the Elizabeth Line instead.
But at £10?
Heathrow Express suddenly becomes MUCH easier to justify.
Especially after a long-haul flight when the last thing you want is dragging suitcases across the London Underground.
Most passengers will pay the full £26 fare without even checking.
If you already know your Heathrow travel dates, booking early could save enough money for airport breakfast… or even lounge access instead

Is Heathrow Express Worth It?
At full price? No, it's a complete rip off! The journey is around 15 minutes, I have been on low cost flights to far away countries for less than this price!

At £10 advance fares? Probably yes.
Especially if you:
have luggage
are travelling with family
have an early morning flight
just want the least stressful Heathrow transfer possible
One of the best things about Heathrow Express is simplicity.
You don’t need to worry about changing Tube lines or squeezing luggage into crowded carriages.
You simply board at Heathrow and around 15 minutes later you’re at Paddington Station.

Heathrow Express Advance Ticket Trick
This is the bit most passengers miss.
Heathrow Express sells discounted Advance tickets from £10 when booked 30+ days before travel online.
Yet thousands of passengers still end up paying:
£26 Standard fares
station prices
or tap-in fares without checking first
Which honestly feels painful once you realise the cheaper tickets existed the whole time.
A couple travelling together could easily save more than £30 return.
And these days?
That’s basically airport lounge money.

Heathrow Airport Parking
If you're driving to Heathrow, I recommend booking official Heathrow Airport parking in advance, which offers flexible cancellation up to two hours before travel.
Heathrow parking prices can become VERY expensive closer to departure.
Final Boarding Call
Heathrow Express probably isn’t the cheapest way to get to Heathrow.
But it IS one of the fastest and easiest.
And if you can grab the £10 advance fares instead of paying £26 later?
It becomes a much smarter Heathrow travel option overall.
