The Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card is not a separate bank account. Instead, it connects to a supported UK current account and works as an additional layer in front of your existing debit card.
When you use it:

you continue spending your own money

I particularly like that I haven’t had to move banks or open another current account. I simply connected it to my existing account and started using it for purchases I was already making.
It currently supports many major UK banks, including Barclays, Chase, HSBC, Lloyds, Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest, Revolut, Santander, Starling and others. Always check the current supported-bank list before applying.
My Experience After Almost Two Years With the Card
I’ve now had the Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card for almost two years, so I’ve had plenty of time to decide whether it genuinely delivers value or is just another shiny travel card promising the earth.
For me, it has been incredibly useful. I don’t like putting every purchase on a credit card, and some payment systems simply work better with debit. The Hilton card lets me continue spending my own money while collecting Hilton Honors Points from purchases I would have made anyway.
I now live full-time in the Netherlands, and the card works brilliantly here. I use it for everyday purchases, including supermarket shopping, so I can collect the supermarket’s own loyalty rewards while also earning Hilton Points through the card.

Pooling Points With My Partner
My partner also has the card, and Hilton allows members to pool points. That helped us build a much more useful combined balance.
We recently used those points for a stay at Mangia’s Santa Teresa Sardinia, Curio Collection by Hilton. Hilton was offering a bonus when purchasing points, so I bought the remaining points required for a five-night redemption.
Because Hilton Honors members with elite status can receive the fifth night free on eligible five-night reward stays, we only needed points for four nights.
That meant we paid considerably less than the hotel’s normal cash price.

But that doesn’t change the value of the points strategy. Had I paid the hotel’s full cash price, I would have been considerably more upset. By pooling our points, buying the remainder during a promotional sale and receiving the fifth reward night free, we paid less than half the normal price.
One disappointing property doesn’t put me off Hilton completely. Hilton has an enormous portfolio covering everything from dependable airport hotels to luxury and resort brands.
Free Heathrow Airport Hotel Before an Early Flight
One of my best redemptions was a completely free night at the Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow Airport.
The room would normally have cost around £180, but I redeemed approximately 40,000 Hilton Honors Points instead. It made an enormous difference before an early departure: no stressful journey to Heathrow at dawn, no expensive last-minute airport transport and no alarm set for a completely unreasonable hour.
It was a genuinely excellent experience and exactly the sort of practical redemption that makes collecting hotel points worthwhile.
I’m also a big fan of Hampton by Hilton airport hotels. The Hampton by Hilton Gatwick North Terminal is particularly convenient because it is connected to the terminal by a covered walkway, placing you moments from easyJet check-in.
When Hilton Gold Made a Real Difference in Beijing
I noticed the value of Hilton Gold most clearly during my stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Beijing.
Gold members had a separate check-in area, so there was no waiting around at the main desk. I was offered drinks and snacks and received a room upgrade.
These may sound like small touches, but together they made me feel genuinely valued and made the trip more memorable. This was when the Gold status included with the card stopped feeling like a line in a benefits table and started feeling like a real travel upgrade.
Have I Recovered the £150 Annual Fee?
Yes, without question.
During my first year, I benefited from my Beijing stay and its Gold recognition. More recently, I redeemed around 40,000 points for the Heathrow hotel room that would otherwise have cost approximately £180.
That Heathrow redemption alone was worth more than the card’s £150 annual fee, before considering:
the Beijing room upgrade and Gold treatment
the points earned from everyday spending
our reduced-cost Sardinia redemption
breakfast benefits during eligible Hilton stays
the convenience of collecting points without relying on a credit card
That doesn’t mean everyone will recover the fee. If you rarely stay at Hilton and only want the cheapest card for spending abroad, there are less expensive options.
But after almost two years of using the card, pooling points and turning everyday spending into real hotel stays, I can confidently say that I have recovered considerably more value than I paid in annual fees.
One important factual nuance: write that the fifth-night-free benefit comes with Hilton elite status from Silver upwards, rather than presenting it as exclusively a Gold benefit. Your Plus card gives you Gold, so you qualify, but the benefit isn’t unique to Gold.
Is the Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card Worth It?
If you love luxury travel for less, this card is a no-brainer. You’ll unlock instant Hilton Gold, avoid foreign transaction fees, and earn reward points on every purchase.
Combine that with Hilton’s generous redemption offers and you could be sipping cocktails in a 5-star Beijing or Bangkok Hilton suite for almost nothing (trust me, I’ve done it).
