Whether you're planning Phuket, Zanzibar, Reykjavik or one of the exciting new routes launching next year, it's worth checking prices now and setting fare alerts early.

2027 Could Be One of the Most Exciting Years for Travel Yet
If 2026 was the year airlines rebuilt their networks, 2027 looks like the year they start getting ambitious again. New direct long-haul routes are launching. Airlines are expanding from regional UK airports. Thailand is becoming easier to reach. Zanzibar is finally getting direct flights from London. And perhaps most exciting of all?
The countdown has officially begun to direct London to Sydney flights.
For travellers looking to maximise value, new routes often bring introductory fares, increased competition and opportunities to visit destinations that were previously difficult or expensive to reach. If you're looking for cheap flights in 2027, these are the routes worth watching now.
London Gatwick to Phuket with Norse Atlantic
One of the biggest route launches for winter 2026/27 is Norse Atlantic's brand-new direct service between London Gatwick and Phuket.
Flights launch on 4 December 2026 and operate throughout the winter season.

This is a huge development for UK travellers. Until now, most journeys to Phuket involved a stop in Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi or Bangkok.
The arrival of direct flights should increase competition and potentially reduce fares across the Thailand market.
Thailand remains one of the best value destinations in the world for British travellers.

Manchester to Bangkok Returns
Great news for travellers in the North. Norse Atlantic is also bringing back direct Manchester to Bangkok flights for winter 2026/27. Services resume from 5 December 2026.

For years, many Northern travellers have needed to position through London to reach Thailand.
Direct flights remove the hassle and could save hours on overall journey times.
London Gatwick to Zanzibar with TUI
This is the route that personally excites me the most.
TUI has announced direct flights between London Gatwick and Zanzibar from 3 November 2027, operating twice weekly throughout the winter season.
The route runs until March 2028 and finally gives UK travellers a non-stop option to one of Africa's most beautiful destinations. I've visited Zanzibar myself and absolutely loved it.

What makes Zanzibar especially attractive is the value.
Unlike the Maldives or Mauritius, Zanzibar still offers genuine luxury without eye-watering prices.

Direct London to Sydney Is Finally Getting Closer
For decades this has been aviation's holy grail. A direct flight between London and Sydney.
Expected to launch in October 2027, Project Sunrise will create one of the world's longest commercial flights. Will it be cheap? Probably not. Will it be one of the most talked-about airline launches of the decade? Absolutely.
Even if you don't intend to fly it, direct London to Sydney services could reshape competition between Europe, Asia and Australia.

Liverpool to Reykjavik
Starting in November 2026, Liverpool gains direct flights to Reykjavik with easyJet.
For travellers across Merseyside and the North West, this means easier access to one of Europe's most unique destinations.
