Flight Review: British Airways Euroflyer from London Gatwick to Ibiza

Embarking on a journey from London Gatwick to the sun-kissed shores of Ibiza aboard British Airways Euroflyer, I found myself amidst a blend of budget-friendly travel and the classic BA charm. Here's an in-depth look at my experience on flight BA2682.

Flight Details:

BA2682

LGW-IBZ

Airbus A320

Booking & Pre-Flight Preparations

Booking with BA Euroflyer was straightforward, offering competitive fares that rival other low-cost carriers. The added perk? A generous baggage allowance that includes both a cabin bag and a personal item, setting it apart from many budget airlines.

Arriving at Gatwick's South Terminal, I tried the ClubRooms lounge and it didn't dissapoint! More about that here and how you can get in at a cheaper rate than normal!

Blog Post: Check out my review of ClubRooms at Gatwick South and you can get into it at a reduced rate if you have a Priority Pass.

How long do you have to be at Gatwick before flight?

The amount of time you should arrive at Gatwick Airport before your flight depends on several factors, including the airline, destination, and whether you're checking baggage or just carrying hand luggage. General guidelines are:

For Domestic Flights (within the UK):

  • With Checked Baggage: Arrive at least 2 hours before departure.

  • With Hand Luggage Only: Arrive at least 90 minutes before departure.

For European Flights:

  • With Checked Baggage: Arrive at least 2.5 hours before departure.

  • With Hand Luggage Only: Arrive at least 2 hours before departure.

For Long-Haul (Intercontinental) Flights:

  • Arrive at least 3 hours before departure.

Additional Considerations:

  • British Airways check in  Guidelines: Opens 24 hours before departure for flights from the UK you can check in via the British Airways website or mobile app and obtain your boarding pass. Advance Seat Selection is available for a fee from the time of booking until check-in opens.

  • Security Screening: Allow extra time during peak travel periods or if travelling with items that may require additional screening.

  • Online Check-In: If you've already checked in online and have no bags to drop, you may be able to arrive closer to departure.

  • Transport to the Airport: Factor in time for unexpected delays on the way to Gatwick.

Boarding & Cabin Experience

Boarding commenced with a slight delay, this was attributed to slot restrictionsa a common occurrence during peak travel times at London Gatwick. Once onboard the Airbus A320, I was pleasantly surprised to find the cabin only about 30% full, a rarity in August. This allowed for lots of space and a more relaxed atmosphere.

However, the cabin's cleanliness left much to be desired. While the aircraft bore the British Airways branding, the upkeep didn't quite match the expected standards. Seats showed signs of wear, and certain areas could have benefited from a more thorough cleaning.

Seating & Comfort

The seating configuration mirrored that of standard BA short-haul flights. Legroom was adequate for the journey's duration, and the partially filled cabin meant I could stretch out a bit more than usual.

A word of advice: avoid the last row. The seats there have limited recline, which can make for an uncomfortable experience, especially if the person in front decides to lean back.

Top Tip: avoid the last row, which doesn’t recline. If the person in front reclines, it can make an already tight space feel more restrictive.

In-Flight Service

BA Euroflyer offers a buy-on-board service for economy passengers, with options ranging from snacks to more substantial meals. While I didn't indulge this time, it's worth noting that the menu includes items like Tom Kerridge's Chicken Coronation sandwich and Sweet & Spicy Falafel wraps.

Complimentary water and a small snack were provided, a nod to the traditional BA service. For those in Club Europe, a more extensive meal service is available, complete with drinks and a selection of dishes.

WOW

Ready for Take Of with BA Euroflyer

British Airways Euroflyer presents a unique position option for travellers seeking the reliability of BA with the affordability of a budget carrier. The generous baggage policy is a standout feature, and the ability to earn Avios points adds value for frequent flyers.

However, there's room for improvement, particularly in cabin cleanliness. While the flight was comfortable and efficient, elevating the onboard experience would further distinguish Euroflyer in the competitive short-haul market. Is Euroflyer BA or a low cost? I think it needs to make its mind up!

Top Tips for Flying BA Euroflyer:

  • Maximize Baggage Allowance: Take advantage of the included cabin bag and personal item to avoid extra fees.

  • Seat Selection: Steer clear of the last row to ensure a more comfortable journey.

  • Lounge Access: If possible, utilize lounge facilities at Gatwick for a more relaxed pre-flight experience.

  • Stay Informed: Keep an eye on flight updates, especially during peak travel seasons, to anticipate potential delays.

BA Euroflyer offers a balanced blend of cost-effectiveness and the trusted BA experience. With minor enhancements, it has the potential to set a new standard in short-haul travel from Gatwick.

Travel Tip British Airways Economy,Get one of these phone holder clips and watch something on your phone hands free, it clips on to British Airways Economy seats perfectly! They are so cheap and will really transform your economy flight experience!

British Airways Baggage Policy: Once again, the generous baggage allowance stood out as a major perk. Having both a cabin bag and an additional handbag is a benefit that truly distinguishes Euroflyer from many low-cost airlines that charge for extra items beyond a single bag.

Is British Airways Euroflyer Worth It?

British Airways Euroflyer offers a mix of BA brand reliability with a budget-friendly approach. The baggage policy, allowing both a cabin bag and a handbag, is a small difference between the other low cost airlines. While the experience doesn’t offer traditional British Airways extras, I think they are trying to be British Airways utilising their marketing and position whilst also being a low cost airline.

Top Tips for Euroflyer Flights:

Make Use of the Baggage Allowance: With both a handbag and a cabin bag included, Euroflyer provides flexibility that most budget airlines don’t. Pack smart and save on extra fees!

Avoid the Last Row: Limited recline can make for a less comfortable journey.

Consider Lounge Access: Departing from Gatwick? Lounges offer a relaxing pre-flight environment to offset any delays.
